Excalibur: Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
We’re in a medieval hall: candles in the corners, a golden frame, enamel shields as low symbols and character portraits as high symbols. On spins, everything looks like stained glass — a bit theatrical, but tidy. During Free Spins, the visuals remain the same: only a panel with the spin counter and total win appears, so the bonus feels like “the same hall, only with higher stakes”. Symbols are easy to read, though the overall art style feels slightly “grainy”.
🎶 Sound
In the background, you can barely hear “the city beyond the walls”: murmurs, footsteps, distant hoofbeats. During spins, classic old-school NetEnt takes over — fanfares and brass overpower the ambience, making the music deliberately louder than the interface. This imbalance is familiar from the studio’s older catalogue, but in Excalibur it works: rare appearances of Wilds and Scatters are marked by short fanfares, while the quiet between them keeps a steady, measured rhythm.

Winning Combinations
Before playing Excalibur, it’s important to understand how payouts work. The slot pays in coins per line. The table below shows payouts at Bet Level 1 (i.e., “1 coin per line”). To get your total coin win, multiply the table value by your Bet Level (1–4) and account for Wild multipliers (x2/x4) and Free Spins multiplier (x3). Coin Value then converts coins into currency — the slot does not display “x of total bet”.

Special Symbols
- Wild (sword with green glow): substitutes all symbols except the Scatter and Golden Wild; wins with its participation are doubled (a line of Wilds alone is not multiplied). It has its own payouts (10 coins for 2, 250 for 3, 2500 for 4, 10,000 for 5).
- Golden Wild (golden sword): appears only on reel 3, substitutes all symbols except Scatter and regular Wild; any line win involving it is multiplied by 4.
- Scatter (golden goblet): pays from total bet (x2 for 2 symbols, x5 for 3, x25 for 4, x500 for 5) and triggers Free Spins when 3+ appear; it does not need to land on a payline.
Bonus Game
- 3/4/5 Scatters award 10/20/30 Free Spins.
- All wins during the bonus are multiplied by x3.
- 3+ Scatters during Free Spins add more spins (same numbers as initial trigger), automatically added to the remaining total.
- Bet and Coin Value remain the same as in the triggering spin.
RTP, Volatility, Max Win
Official RTP — 95.08%, volatility rated low–medium. The maximum win stated by NetEnt is x1800 of the stake.
Our Verdict
Excalibur is an old-school NetEnt that still feels perfectly playable in 2025. The coin-based maths is archaic, but behaviour is predictable: the regular Wild frequently “seasons” lines with x2, and a Golden Wild in the centre can suddenly lift a spin. The x3 bonus genuinely feels stronger, and retriggers do happen and can pull a session back.
If you want a “quiet stride” with non-punishing variance, this slot is comfortable. Don’t expect monstrous x wins or complex mechanics — that’s not what Excalibur is for.
Mood-matching alternatives: Legendary Excalibur — same Arthurian theme but with a modern reel setup and a focus on a centre expanding Excalibur Wild (good for fans of simple but flashy Wild reveals). Kill Em All — for something fresh, bold and high-volatility with unconventional bonus logic.
