Nitropolis 5: Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
We’re greeted with the hissing neon of a megapolis and the assault-unit aesthetic of the NPD. The reel frames are built from pipes and cables, three Nitro Booster “flippers” spin above, and the gangs — Dirty Dawgs, Gritty Kitty, Pug Thugs and Rogue Rats — take over the grid. In the base game, everything flickers with cold lights; Nitro canisters and oversized 2×2 and 3×3 symbols bounce nicely after cascades.
In the bonus, the visuals become warmer and meaner, the grid stretches upwards, and a short “mini-film” plays before the round begins. The feature-activation animations add the right amount of theatricality and make the mechanics easy to read.
🎶 Sound
The music here matches the visuals — top tier. In the base game, you hear a track straight out of a futuristic spy action film: clean, tight, never overwhelming, always pushing the pace. Free spins bring in guitar riffs and a more aggressive tone, especially as the security level rises. Explosion sounds, the drone’s voice, the snapping flippers and coin jingles are all mixed without noise or clutter — the team clearly polished the audio, and it really helps you understand which feature has just triggered.

Special Symbols
To avoid sinking into terminology, we divide everything into four groups — basic special symbols, Nitro Reels, the Nitro Booster flippers and the NPD Holding Cell police mechanic. Below is what each element does and how it directly affects your spins.
Base Special Symbols:
- Wild (helmeted bird in a gold WILD frame): substitutes for all symbols except the bonus and super bonus. A separate line of wilds pays as the highest-value symbol.
- BONUS Scatter (BONUS truck emblem): triggers free spins. Details on the number of spins are in the “Bonus Game” section.
- Super Scatter (SUPER BONUS token inside a Nitro Reel): appears only inside a Nitro Reel. Upgrades the trigger to a Super Bonus. Counts as one small symbol even if placed inside a large Nitro Reel.
- Boss Battle Coin: dropped via the Nitro Booster. When three coins accumulate on the flippers, the Boss Battle mode triggers.
Nitro Reels and Their Abilities:
- Regular Nitro Reel: occupies two grid cells and carries a stack of identical 1×1 symbols — 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 pieces. When it stops, it “unpacks” the stack and sharply increases the number of ways to win.
- Big Nitro Reel: occupies six cells and carries large 2×2 symbols — 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 pieces.
- Nitro Multiplier (canister x4, x6, x8, x10, x12): may appear inside a Nitro Reel. Multiplies all wins visible on the screen. Multiple canisters multiply together. For determining ways, counts as a single small symbol.
- Respins Behaviour: Nitro Reels and Nitro Multipliers that were part of a winning combination become sticky and remain for one respin. This helps “stretch” the setup into another win.
- Large Symbols: all symbols — including wilds and low-paying ones — can appear in sizes 1×1, 2×2 or 3×3. Empty spaces beneath large symbols and Big Nitro Reels are automatically filled with small symbols of the same type.
Nitro Booster — Three Flippers Above the Reels: They can award one of 11 effects, divided into two groups.
Effects for the Main Grid:
- Max Rows — expands the grid to 8 rows.
- Both Ways — wins pay left to right and right to left.
- Respin — if there is no win, triggers one respin while bonuses, wilds, Nitro Reels and Nitro Multipliers remain in place.
- Police Report: Dirty Dawgs — replaces part of the high-value symbols with the top symbol.
- Police Report: Gritty Kitty — selects a random symbol and evaluates it as a scatter pay across three different reels.
- Boss Battle — adds a coin towards triggering the Boss Battle mode.
Effects for Nitro Reels:
- Nitro Wild — fills all Nitro Reels under the trigger with wilds.
- Nitro Match — fills Nitro Reels with a chosen symbol from the same or neighbouring reel to create a line.
- Nitro Upgrade — increases the count on all Nitro Reels under the trigger. If a multiplier canister is inside, its value also increases.
- Police Report: Rogue Rats — places a random number of new Nitro Reels on the grid.
- Police Report: Pug Thugs — moves one Nitro Reel to a new position to create or extend a win.
NPD Holding Cell — NPD “Storage Cell”
- A symbol type is chosen randomly during a spin, respin or free spin.
- If the chosen type participates in a win, its symbols become fixed, and alongside them any bonus icons and Nitro Multipliers also lock. The grid may expand upward by one row, after which a respin occurs.
- The cycle continues as long as matching symbols or a new Holding Cell trigger join the cluster. The locked cells are then paid and released.
- Nitro Match and Police Report effects do not alter already locked cells. Cells that do not help form a win are released at the end of the spin.
Bonus Game
There are 3 types of bonuses in the game. Here is how they work.
Free Spins
- Triggered with 3, 4, 5, 6 scatters — awarding 8, 12, 16, 20 spins.
- All Nitro Reels remain sticky during free spins.
- A Safety Level is introduced. You start with four rows. Each winning spin raises the level by +1 row, up to a maximum of eight. If Nitro Reels already stand higher than the current level, they can push the scale up by several rows at once. Retriggers add spins according to the initial trigger rules.
Super Bonus
Triggered if a Super Scatter is included among the starting symbols. The game runs with Max Rows and Both Ways active by default, and NPD Holding Cell triggers every spin.
Boss Battle
The grid is replaced by a 7x8 field. You get 3 shots. A hit collects the coin, clears the cell and resets your shots to 3. The round ends when you run out of shots or hit MAX WIN. The payout equals the sum of collected coins multiplied by your current bet, after which the slot returns to the standard grid.
RTP, Volatility, Maximum Win
The official RTP of Nitropolis 5 is 94%. The maximum win is x50,000 times the stake; once the cap is reached, the round ends instantly, and the payout is fixed. Volatility is high and requires a solid bankroll.
Our Verdict
Nitropolis 5 is all about the domino effect. The flippers above throw features into play, the NPD Holding Cell locks the required symbol type and stretches the grid, and the Nitro Reels with multipliers finish the payout. Sometimes the slot stays quiet for a long stretch — normal for this maths — but when a respin connects with Both Ways and a rising level, the screen takes off. Boss Battle is a rare rhythm shift for the series and a pleasant breather from cascades.
The downsides are clear: the low RTP and the demand for long-distance play — but the x50,000 ceiling and the “charged” version of the bonus are tempting. For anyone who enjoys mechanical chains and dense action, it’s worth approaching through the demo and without rushing.
If you prefer something even harsher in risk and with a horror aesthetic, check out Mental from Nolimit City — extreme volatility, unconventional symbols and explosive multipliers. If you're after a criminal vibe with a multiplier focus, consider Tony Gambler — ideal for players who enjoy high-risk spins and tense bonus rounds.
