Leeds United vs Sunderland: prediction & betting odds 3 March 2026

The Premier League matchday 29 fixture between Leeds United and Sunderland will take place on 3 March at Elland Road. Leeds United vs Sunderland: prediction, betting odds and statistics.

Leeds United

Leeds United hosted Manchester City at the weekend and lost 0:1 to one of the league’s leading sides. As a result, the club’s four-match unbeaten run in the league came to an end, a spell that brought one win and three draws. It was also only the second time in the last 11 Premier League games that the home team failed to score. Leeds United remain uncomfortably close to the bottom three, sitting six points clear of it. It is also worth noting that in the last three league matches the side conceded exactly one goal.

  • In their last 17 Premier League matches, the club have suffered only three defeats (five wins and nine draws).
  • Both teams scored in 16 of Leeds United’s previous 20 league games.
  • The team have conceded no more than one goal in five of their last six home games in the Premier League.

Potential Leeds United Lineup (3-4-2-1)*

Karl Darlow – Joe Rodon, James Justin, Pascal Struijk – Anton Stach, Ilia Gruev, Jayden Bogle, Gabriel Gudmundsson – Ethan Ampadu, Brenden Aaronson – Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Forward Noah Okafor is out injured. Defender Joe Rodon has a minor issue and remains a doubt.

Sunderland

Sunderland were also away from home last time out and managed to take a draw at the Vitality Stadium, despite opening the scoring against Bournemouth (1:1). Before that, the club suffered a surprise home defeat to Liverpool (0:1) and Fulham (1:3), and also lost away to Arsenal (0:3). A difficult run in the league has seen Sunderland drop to 12th in the standings. However, relegation trouble is unlikely, as the club sit 12 points clear of the bottom three. It is also worth adding that the team’s matches have been the lowest-scoring in the Premier League, with an average of 2.25 goals per game.

  • Exactly two or three goals were scored in seven of the club’s previous nine league matches.
  • In Sunderland’s last 12 Premier League games, they have recorded just two wins (five draws and five defeats).
  • Away from home, the team have been unable to score more than one goal in nine consecutive Premier League matches.

Potential Sunderland Lineup (4-5-1)*

Robin Roefs – Omar Alderete, Lutsharel Geertruida, Daniel Ballard, Trai Hume – Habib Diarra, Granit Xhaka – Shamsdine Talbi, Enzo Le Fee, Noah Sadiki – Eliezer Mayenda.

Defenders Nordi Mukiele and Reinildo Mandava, forward Brian Brobbey and midfielder Joselin Ta Bi will miss the match through injury.

Leeds United vs Sunderland: Match Prediction

Let us remind you that both sides were promoted to the Premier League together this season, and it is increasingly likely they will remain in England’s top flight for at least one more campaign. In this upcoming clash, we give a slight edge to the hosts, who have improved since the start of winter, while the visitors, by contrast, have hit the brakes since the Christmas period.

In addition, the venue matters. Both teams are much stronger at home than away. Leeds United have collected 71% of their points on home soil, and they have avoided defeat in six of their last eight home Premier League matches. Meanwhile, Sunderland have been unable to win away from home in nine straight league games.

We also feel there will be no more than three goals in this contest. After all, Sunderland games have been the lowest-scoring in the league. In addition, a maximum of three goals were scored in seven of Leeds United’s previous 11 Premier League matches and in 13 of Sunderland’s last 15 league fixtures. Incidentally, the sides drew 1:1 in the reverse meeting.

Prediction: Sunderland, double chance + Under 3.5 goals

* For each team, the starting lineup is from their previous match in this competition.

Betting tips 3 March 2026

Leeds United have been below fellow promoted side Sunderland in the standings all season, but in recent months they have been receiving far more positive reviews than their opponents, who lost momentum by Christmas.

The hosts woke up shortly before that, at the beginning of December. Over the whole winter they have lost only three times, and two of those defeats were by a single goal, including last round’s 0:1 against Manchester City. The only mid-table side to beat them was Newcastle United (3:4). Even in the period when they were losing more often, their opponents scored more than one goal at Elland Road only five times out of 14. For two visiting teams even that was only enough for a draw.

The visitors ended winter by scoring and drawing 1:1 with Bournemouth, who had gone seven league matches without a defeat by that point. Their good spell lasted only for the first half-hour. Régis Le Bris’s team avoided defeat largely thanks to goalkeeper Робен Руфс, who made four saves, and Bournemouth's poor finishing, as they hit the target only five times from 21 attempts. However, the problem is that the poor results are accumulating: this was their fourth match without a win, with an average of 2.0 goals conceded per game.

Both the departure of six key players to the Africa Cup of Nations and recent injuries have contributed to the visitors' decline over the course of the season. Granit Xhaka returned to the starting line-up against Bournemouth, but there are still six players in the treatment room, including Nordi Mukiele, who is important both in defence and in attack. All these factors suggest they will lose to the hosts.
