Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA ’s-Hertogenbosch match.
The start of the grass-court season provides a key opportunity to gain ranking points ahead of Wimbledon. Both players were eliminated in the second round of Roland Garros and now shift their focus to the Netherlands. Grass complements Anastasia Potapova’s playing style, and she has delivered solid performances throughout the season. In contrast, Ann Li has struggled to find rhythm in 2025.
Ann Li
Ann Li has a poor record on grass, with only six wins and thirteen losses since 2020. Her aggressive baseline play and powerful serve are more effective on hard courts. This year, the American has posted inconsistent results, alternating between victories and defeats. Apart from reaching the final in Singapore earlier in the season, her overall form has been disappointing. Her first-serve statistics also raise concerns: she lands 62% of her first serves and wins just 63% of those points.
Anastasia Potapova
Anastasia Potapova heads into the grass-court stretch in much better shape. The Russian has won thirteen of her last nineteen matches and claimed a title at the indoor event in Cluj-Napoca. Her game is well-suited to grass – she serves reliably, varies the pace effectively, and favours short, attacking rallies. Since 2023, she has contested thirteen matches on grass and emerged victorious in eight. She also has a previous win over Ann Li, dominating in straight sets (6:2, 7:6) in 2022, though that match was played on a different surface.
Ann Li vs Anastasia Potapova Prediction
Anastasia Potapova holds a significant edge in terms of grass-court experience, while Ann Li has featured in just three matches on this surface over the past two years. The Russian is in excellent form and is expected to secure a convincing win, comfortably covering at least a three-game spread.
