Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League match.
Arsenal are aiming to extend their winning run and tighten their grip on top spot in the Champions League group. However, a resurgent Atlético Madrid, who have historically matched up well against Arsenal, stand in their way.
Arsenal
Arsenal are in superb form: six wins from eight Premier League games, five clean sheets, 15 goals scored and only three conceded. In the Champions League, they’ve made a perfect start with back-to-back 2:0 victories over Athletic Bilbao and Olympiacos, led by standout performances from Gabriel Martinelli (2+1) and Leandro Trossard (1+1). At home, Arsenal have been almost unstoppable — four wins from five, with a 13:1 aggregate scoreline, and only Manchester City (1:1) managing to take points off them. Injuries to Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke, and Martin Ødegaard weaken the attack slightly, but Bukayo Saka (4+3 in the Premier League) and Viktor Gyökeres, who has already struck three times in the league, provide more than enough firepower.
Atlético Madrid
Atlético’s La Liga campaign began inconsistently, leaving them trailing Real Madrid and Barcelona, but recent form has been impressive: 3:2 against Rayo Vallecano, 5:2 versus Real Madrid, and 1:0 over Osasuna. In Europe, Atlético Madrid demolished Eintracht Frankfurt (5:1) but stumbled in their opener against Liverpool (2:3), exposing defensive frailties. Across 11 matches in all competitions, they have kept just two clean sheets. Even in their narrow 1:0 win over Osasuna, they allowed 1.14 xGA — a reminder of lingering defensive issues.
Arsenal vs Atlético Madrid Prediction
Arsenal have been ruthlessly consistent and rarely slip up. Atlético Madrid may be hitting stride, but their defensive lapses will be difficult to contain against one of Europe’s most dynamic attacks. Expect Arsenal to make home advantage count.
