Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Southwell 1m BetMGM Tandridge Stakes (Listed Race) (4yo+) horse racing event.
Tyrrhenian Sea finished third in the Hyde Stakes before going down by a very narrow margin in the Midnite Quebec Stakes, a Listed race in which he started favourite. Despite being eight years old, he still looks to have a strong chance here.
Witch Hunter is a regular runner. He had 13 starts last year, recording just one win in a Kempton handicap. This year he has already run twice and scored last time in the Mile Trial Handicap at Newcastle. A solid, honest type, but winning at this level will be difficult.
Two Tempting is another who runs frequently, but this is his first appearance at this level in a long career spanning 45 starts. His most recent run came here on 1 January, when he finished second. Stepping out of handicap company will not make life any easier.
Five year old Storm Star was gelded earlier this year and, on his return, finished sixth in a Newcastle handicap behind Witch Hunter, despite going off favourite. Last season he ran four times, all at Newcastle in handicaps, winning three of them, including the All-Weather Championships Mile Handicap worth 77,000 pounds to the winner. If he has regained that level of form, he could get involved.
Dutch-bred Skylight Brochard makes his first start outside France. His last win came in January last year in the Prix Bellabre, a conditions race. Since then he has run a dozen times, finishing a close second on three occasions, including last time at Cagnes-Sur-Mer. It is hard to see him changing his luck here.
Dear My Friend ran twice in Bahrain last winter. He finished eighth in the Al Adiyat Cup, a local Grade 1, before taking fourth in the Bahrain Mile, also a local Grade 1. He has not been seen since, and a year-long absence is a concern.
Chancellor was a beaten favourite last time in the Hyde Stakes, a Listed race at Kempton, where he went down by a neck. Before that, he won a seven-furlong handicap at the same track by the same margin. Both runs came after he was gelded and underwent wind surgery. That upward trend makes him the one to side with.
