Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Finals match.
In Turin at the Nitto ATP Finals, Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz will compete for the lead in Group Jimmy Connors, where the Spaniard, who started with a confident victory over Alex de Minaur, will face the American, who is traditionally strong on the indoor courts in Turin.
Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz dominates the season: eight titles from ten finals, including two Grand Slams, three ATP Masters 1000 and three ATP 500 series. He ends this season with an exceptional win rate (69-9), and on indoor courts he has won 8 of 11 matches, with a title in Rotterdam. At the Nitto ATP Finals, he does not have the best statistics — a semi-final in 2023 and a group-stage elimination last year. Now he defeated Alex de Minaur in the first match with a four-game margin.
Taylor Fritz
Taylor Fritz is on the rise in Turin: a final and a semi-final in previous years, and this season he has a 55-22 record with two titles on grass and a Wimbledon semi-final. However, recent setbacks at the Swiss Indoors Basel (against Ugo Humbert), the Rolex Shanghai Masters (against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard), and the Rolex Paris Masters (against Alexander Bublik) cast doubt on his form. Additionally, after the Laver Cup, he conceded at least one set to opponents in 8 of the last 12 matches. Even the head-to-head statistics against Carlos Alcaraz are not in his favour — five defeats and only one victory at the aforementioned Laver Cup. At the Nitto ATP Finals, he started with a straight-sets victory over Lorenzo Musetti (6:3, 6:4), but the Italian made five double faults during the match.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz Prediction
Carlos Alcaraz will set the pace with his activity and footwork. Fritz is strong, but his recent failures against lower-ranked opponents are not encouraging. The Spaniard should handle the American with a margin of four games.
