Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
The meeting in Vigo between Celta and Nice could prove decisive for both teams’ chances of reaching the knockout stage. With a tough domestic schedule ahead, each side will be desperate to collect points here before their opportunities narrow.
Celta Vigo
Despite a modest run of just one win in their last ten matches, Celta Vigo have shown resilience and improved structure. Since late August, they’ve lost only twice — both narrow 1:2 defeats to Stuttgart and Elche. October has brought positive signs: a confident 3:1 victory over PAOK and draws against Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad, where Celta matched their opponents in xG and pressing intensity. At home, their attacking trio continues to create consistent chances, with an average of 1.6 xG per match in recent fixtures.
OGC Nice
The French side have struggled to find rhythm in Europe. Losses to AS Roma and Fenerbahce (both 1:2) left them bottom of their group, even though they conceded a combined 2.33 expected goals — suggesting their defensive mistakes were more costly than the overall play. Nice are yet to win away from home this season; a 2:2 draw with AS Monaco ended a run of four consecutive away defeats in which they scored just three goals. Despite good individual quality, Nice continue to struggle with consistency in both transition defence and finishing.
Celta Vigo vs OGC Nice Prediction
Both sides favour open football and have been involved in high-scoring encounters throughout the Europa League campaign. Celta look sharper at home, while Nice are too vulnerable at the back to keep a clean sheet. Expect an entertaining, attacking match with plenty of goal-scoring opportunities.
