Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
Feyenoord Rotterdam will be desperate to claim their first points in the Europa League after two straight defeats, while Panathinaikos travel to Rotterdam looking to strengthen their place in the playoff zone.
Feyenoord Rotterdam
Feyenoord Rotterdam dominate domestically, going nine Eredivisie matches unbeaten and thrashing Heracles (7:0) at the weekend. But their European form is the complete opposite — back-to-back losses to Braga (0:1) and Aston Villa (0:2) with no goals scored. Feyenoord have now lost four straight continental fixtures, with opponents consistently generating more than 1.7 xG per match. Still, at De Kuip they remain aggressive and proactive, averaging 16 shots and over 60% possession.
Panathinaikos
The Greek side began the group stage positively, beating Young Boys before narrowly losing to Go Ahead Eagles to sit on three points. Their domestic form has been less convincing with only two wins in six league matches, leaving them seventh in the Super League table. Panathinaikos play a disciplined, possession-based style and rely on free kicks and corners, averaging nearly 12 shots per game with an xG around 1.4. Away from home they are consistently productive, scoring in 13 of their last 16 fixtures in all competitions.
Feyenoord Rotterdam vs Panathinaikos Prediction
Feyenoord’s attacking intent should make for an open contest, but their defensive fragility leaves plenty of space for Panathinaikos to exploit. The Greek club are efficient on the counter and convert chances well, so they should find the net at least once in Rotterdam.
