Napoli’s prospects of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League are diminishing with every round. Juventus and A.S. Roma are already breathing down their necks, so the squad simply cannot afford any slip-ups. They will therefore go into the match against Genoa with extra motivation.
Genoa
Genoa had an excellent January: two wins, four draws and only one defeat, against Lazio (2:3). Over this stretch Ruslan Malinovskyi performed very well, collecting 4 (2+2) goal contributions. In addition, during the transfer window they signed Alexsandro Amorim and Tommaso Baldanzi, who should significantly strengthen the midfield and add creativity.
Napoli
With every round Napoli’s situation is getting worse. In the last match they were lucky not to drop points against Fiorentina (2:1), but paid for it with an injury to key defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo. Romelu Lukaku is back in action, but he is still far from optimal physical condition, having played only 22 minutes across three matches. The club did work in the transfer market, but we doubt that Hellas Verona forward Giovane Santana do Nascimento (3 goals) will be able to significantly change their attacking play.
Genoa vs Napoli Prediction
Napoli are the clear favourites, but it will definitely not be easy for them in Genoa. The massive personnel losses, as well as their less than convincing defending, are bound to affect the result. The hosts have a very good chance of taking something from this match.
