Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Champion of Champions match.
Judd Trump will face Bai Yulu. This is their first head-to-head, and the favourite is clear, but the Englishman cannot relax as short formats often produce surprises.
Judd Trump
Judd Trump comes into the match in outstanding form: eight wins in his last ten matches, 31 breaks over 50 and five centuries. After the setback at the International Championship (a 4:6 defeat to Wu Yize in the last 16) he looks highly motivated. His aggressive, high-tempo style with constant pursuit of attacking positions allows him to close frames quickly in a single visit. This current run shows the stability and confidence typical of world No. 1 level.
Bai Yulu
Bai Yulu is not in her best spell — only two wins in her last eight matches — but ten 50+ breaks confirm her potential. Against Wang Xinzhong (4:6) he showed character and resistance even when trailing. Bai has not been making centuries, but his tactical discipline and safety play can help him take a frame.
Judd Trump vs Bai Yulu Prediction
The gap in class is evident: Judd Trump is one of the most consistent players of the season, while Bai Yulu is still adapting to elite level. However, a best-of-seven gives the underdog a chance for partial success — winning a single frame may be enough for our angle. Given Trump’s tendency to drop one or two early frames at events, we expect the Chinese player to produce at least one scoring visit of 50+.
