Adam Williams presents his prediction for the UK Championship Snooker match.
Judd Trump continues his title defence at the UK Championship and goes into the match against Si Jiahui after a difficult but ultimately comfortable win in the opening round. His opponent, by contrast, dealt with Ryan Day with a minimum of fuss (6:0) and arrives in the main draw in excellent spirits.
Judd Trump
Trump has won seven of their eight head-to-head meetings, but his form is still inconsistent. In the match against Stephen Maguire, at 3:3 he could have made life difficult for himself, but he raised his level in time: three 50+ breaks and a 100-point century break. His game is not flawless, but it is effective: Judd rarely pulls away to a significant lead in frames and often allows his opponents to take frames. Before this event he lost to Zhao Xintong and suffered a painful defeat to Mark Selby (5:10).
Si Jiahui
Si has had a solid season without major dips and regularly reaches at least the second round at the big events. His match against Ryan Day is a good indicator of his current level: 6:0, dominance from start to finish and three 50+ breaks. Confidence, aggression and excellent table control are his main strengths over a long match.
Judd Trump vs Si Jiahui Prediction
Si Jiahui is in good rhythm at the moment and can maintain a high tempo throughout the match. Trump is capable of pulling through in the closing stages, but he almost never wins opening rounds by routings. The playing styles of both suggest a fairly long match: evenly contested frames, replying breaks and very few quick frames. And although the bookmaker sees the defending champion as the clear favourite, we would not be that confident in an easy win for him.
