For Levante the upcoming match is a chance to prove that the 0:2 defeat in the derby against Valencia was only an unfortunate episode. Luís Castro's side are still fighting for survival and understand that home points are the key to staying up. Villarreal, meanwhile, are in crisis: a run of poor results and injuries to key defenders have put their place in the European qualification positions into doubt.
Levante
They have been on a knife edge this season: at times they impress with their work rate, at others they crumble with basic errors. In their last five home matches they have suffered only one defeat, but their problematic defence remains an Achilles heel: 40 goals conceded is the worst record in La Liga. At home they look more organised: they take fewer risks, keep the ball more often and consistently create chances. Karl Etta Eyong has been particularly active in attack, scoring six goals and providing three assists this season.
Villarreal
They, for their part, have not been able to find themselves after a series of injuries. Marcelino García Toral's side have taken only four points from the last five rounds and conceded nine goals, which is far too many for a club aiming for the Champions League. Without Juan Foyth and Cabañes the defence is coming apart, and their combination play has clearly declined. Away from home they have also been inconsistent: two defeats and one draw in their last three trips, despite facing lower-ranked opponents – Osasuna (2:2) and Getafe (1:2).
Levante vs Villarreal Prediction
Levante are strong in terms of spirit and at home play with enormous commitment, but their defensive problems have not gone away. Villarreal are in a similar situation: the side are going through a prolonged slump and make too many mistakes at the back. Therefore we expect both teams to score.
