Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Vienna match.
Matteo Arnaldi will be looking to rediscover his form indoors after a difficult August–September spell, while Alexander Zverev — one of the main contenders for the Vienna title — aims to steady himself following a shaky start to the tournament.
Matteo Arnaldi
World No.72 Arnaldi has endured an inconsistent season, recording 23 wins and 24 losses. His best results came with a fourth-round run at a Grand Slam and a quarter-final in Madrid. Indoor hard courts haven’t been his strength (14-25 career record), yet he has a reputation for troubling top players — five career wins over top-10 opponents, and he’s taken at least one set in six such matches.
Alexander Zverev
World No.3 Zverev thrives in Vienna, having lifted the title in 2021 and winning all six of his opening-round matches here since. However, his late-season form has been patchy, with defeats to Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, and Arthur Rinderknech. In the first round, he narrowly avoided a major upset against World No.81 Jacob Fearnley — dropping the second set 1:6 and scraping through a tense third-set tiebreak. Zverev leads the head-to-head against Arnaldi, but the Italian took a set off him in both encounters.
Matteo Arnaldi vs Alexander Zverev Prediction
Arnaldi’s record against elite players suggests he won’t go quietly, especially against a cautious and slightly fatigued Zverev. Expect a competitive contest with the Italian keeping it close on the scoreboard.
