Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Investec Champions Cup match.
In head-to-head meetings, Munster Rugby have always been stronger than Gloucester Rugby (4:0), but the most recent of these was back in January 2019 (41:15). Perhaps in that time they have improved.
Munster Rugby
Firstly, Munster Rugby have home advantage: they have lost only six of their last 20 home matches. Their home venue this time is not Thomond Park but SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Limerick, but that does not change much. It is true that Munster Rugby come into this match on the back of two consecutive defeats, including a home loss to Stormers (21:27), but Stormers are top of the United Rugby Championship, while Munster Rugby are third with five wins from six rounds.
Gloucester Rugby
The current Gloucester Rugby side is very different from the team of six years ago, or even six months ago. Key leaders have left because the club simply could not meet their contract demands; the most important loss was Santiago Carreras. In the 2024/25 season the visitors almost reached the Premiership Rugby play-offs, but now they are second from bottom with just one win from six rounds, and that solitary victory came in their most recent league match, at home to Harlequins (26:15). However, if we look at results across all three competitions, Gloucester Rugby are currently on a run of four consecutive wins, something they have not achieved either this season or at any point in 2025.
Munster Rugby vs Gloucester Rugby Prediction
In the first round of the Investec Champions Cup, Munster Rugby lost away to Bath (14:40), but facing Bath, the Premiership Rugby leaders, away is a completely different task from hosting Gloucester Rugby, the Premiership Rugby outsiders, at home, so the hosts should beat the visitors. The margin is unlikely to be huge, as they do not usually win by very large scores.
