Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NBA match.
The New Orleans Pelicans and the Oklahoma City Thunder meet for the second time this regular season. The first clash in Oklahoma City ended in a one-sided showcase of the hosts’ superiority at 137:106. It is hard to believe the New Orleans Pelicans have grown significantly stronger in the space of just a couple of weeks.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans sit bottom of the Western Conference, and it is fully deserved. A major injury wave has crippled the team. Zion Williamson went down first, followed by Jordan Poole — their two main scorers, who combine for 40.1 points per game. Considering the Pelicans already own the worst offence in the league, averaging just 108.2 points, these absences are nothing short of disastrous.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder, by contrast, top the Western Conference. They come into this game on a five-win streak, having steamrolled strong opposition such as the Los Angeles Lakers at 121:92 and the Golden State Warriors at 126:102. Their success stems from a superb balance between defence and attack. The Thunder allow fewer points than any team in the league at 106.2, while scoring 121.6 (fifth-best).
New Orleans Pelicans vs Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction
Their recent meeting made it clear there is unlikely to be any intrigue here. The Oklahoma City Thunder should win comfortably with a margin well beyond twenty points.
