Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
Crisis-hit Nottingham Forest look to end a miserable run of results as they host a rampant Porto side that have been nearly flawless this season. The contrast in form and confidence between the two clubs couldn’t be starker.
Nottingham Forest
Sitting 18th in the Premier League with just five points from eight matches, Nottingham Forest are in turmoil. Ange Postecoglou’s sacking after 39 winless days and the appointment of Sean Dyche — known for his pragmatic, defence-first football — have yet to bring stability. Their recent 0:3 defeat to Chelsea highlighted glaring defensive issues and poor finishing, despite creating 2.35 xG. In Europe, they have struggled as well, losing to Midtjylland (2:3) and drawing 2:2 with Real Betis after blowing a late lead. The attacking duo of Igor Jesus and Chris Wood continue to generate chances, but with just 11 goals scored and 22 conceded across all competitions, the balance is badly off.
Porto
Top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga with 22 points from eight games, Porto are in stunning form. They have won 10 of their last 11 matches, drawing only once (0:0 vs Benfica), while conceding just twice and scoring 26 goals in that run. Their European campaign has started perfectly, with a dramatic 1:0 win over Red Bull Salzburg thanks to a 93rd-minute goal, followed by a 2:1 victory over Crvena Zvezda despite a rotated lineup. Rising star William Gomes has already struck twice in Europe, while Samu Aghehowa continues to shine domestically with five league goals.
Nottingham Forest vs Porto Prediction
Porto’s combination of defensive discipline and attacking precision should prove too much for a fragile Nottingham Forest side still adapting to Dyche’s system. The Portuguese champions are well-drilled, confident, and clinical — everything the English side currently are not.
