In 2026 Paris Saint-Germain have so far played only important matches. The meeting with Lille, one of the contenders for a UEFA Champions League place and for the title, confirms this.
Paris Saint-Germain
In January Paris Saint-Germain played either in Paris or in Kuwait City – that has been their schedule after the Trophée des Champions was moved to the Middle East. There they beat Olympique de Marseille on penalties (3:2). Back in Paris, the matchday 17 Ligue 1 fixture against Paris ended 2:1. Nine days later the Parisian giants and Paris met again in the Coupe de France round of 32, and this time at the Parc des Princes they lost 0:1. This was their first ever defeat against the rivals in this fixture.
Lille
However, Ligue 1 remains the priority, as it provides qualification for the UEFA Champions League, where the seventh round will begin as early as next week. Paris Saint-Germain will face Sporting CP in Lisbon, while Lille travel to Vigo to meet Celta de Vigo in the UEFA Europa League. The visitors themselves have yet to win a match in the New Year: first they lost 0:2 to Stade Rennais in Ligue 1 after having a player sent off as early as the 13th minute, and a week later they suffered another home defeat in the cup against an equally strong Olympique Lyonnais (1:2).
Paris Saint-Germain vs Lille Prediction
Although Lille are third in the away standings, they have won only half of their eight away league matches. So far Paris Saint-Germain have dropped only two points at the Parc des Princes (out of a possible 24), and the last four head-to-head meetings there have all ended in the hosts' victories with at least two goals scored. We expect the pattern to continue this time.
