Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Investec Champions Cup match.
In the first round, Sale Sharks and Saracens recorded opposite results, but now they swap home and away status. This favours the hosts: they are extremely difficult to beat in Durban.
Sale Sharks
In the opening round of the European Rugby Champions Cup, Sale Sharks suffered a heavy 19:56 defeat to Stade Toulousain led by Antoine Dupont, the team that won this tournament a year ago. They secured only 14 of their 19 lineouts and conceded penalties much more often (16 to 5), and the only period in which Sale Sharks was on top and did not concede a single point was from the 25th to the 61st minute. That is quite a long spell, but they were poor in the rest of the match. However, at Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium they are almost ruthless towards their opponents. Over their last 14 home matches in the United Rugby Championship and the ERCC, only three visiting teams have managed to leave with a win.
Saracens
In their first-round match, Saracens completely dominated ASM Clermont Auvergne, winning 47:10. They scored their fourth, bonus-point try before half-time. The ASM Clermont Auvergne defence could not contain Owen Farrell, Lucio Cinti and others, with 13 line breaks and seven tries in total. However, it is important to consider how the London side perform away from home. As with any rugby side, their number of wins drops sharply on the road, and for them this has been particularly noticeable in 2025: only 5 victories in 13 away games. On the other hand, Saracens have also largely avoided very heavy scorelines, with the exception of a 42:72 defeat to the same Stade Toulousain. The margin has been a maximum of 18 points.
Sale Sharks vs Saracens Prediction
Overall, we still regard Sale Sharks as the main candidates to take four points, given that Saracens have only two wins (against manageable opponents) from their last eight matches. With some margin for safety, we will back them with a positive handicap.
