Four years later, the national teams of Senegal and Egypt are meeting again at the decisive stages of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Back then Senegal, with Sadio Mané, won the AFCON final 1:0 on penalties, and we should not expect many goals in this encounter either.
Senegal
For Senegal, the current Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has gone without surprises. Over five matches at the tournament, the team only failed to win against DR Congo (1:1), while in the quarter-finals the 1:0 victory over Mali came thanks to an early goal from Iliman Ndiaye and the sending-off of Yves Bissouma. Mali managed only two shots on target against Édouard Mendy, with the partnership of Kalidou Koulibaly and Moussa Niakhaté reliably containing opposing attacks.
Egypt
In addition to the above defeat to Senegal in the AFCON final in February 2022, they also missed out on the 2022 World Cup because of this opponent (1:0 and 0:2), and in all three matches the Both Teams to Score – No bet landed. Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah both scored in the 3:2 quarter-final win over Côte d'Ivoire, yet they generated only 0.78 xG over 90 minutes. The side also found it difficult to open up the game against South Africa (1:0), Angola (0:0) and Benin (3:1 after extra time), and all of those matches were low-scoring in normal time.
Senegal vs Egypt Prediction
Senegal have not lost an official match for almost two years; the last defeat came in the knockout round of the previous AFCON, against eventual champions Côte d'Ivoire (1:2). Even so, their attack does not fully convince – Sadio Mané is past his peak – and Egypt, with Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush threatening on the counter, are also unlikely to commit too many players forward. We therefore expect another cautious, low-scoring meeting between these sides, where the chances of the Both Teams to Score – No look high.
