Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday host one of the league’s frontrunners, Middlesbrough, who sit just one point off the top. Given the gulf in form and resources, this looks like a daunting assignment for the home side.
Sheffield Wednesday
Danny Röhl had previously lifted Sheffield Wednesday to a respectable mid-table finish (12th), but his departure in the summer has left the club in disarray. Under new boss Henrik Pedersen, Sheffield Wednesday have slumped to the bottom of the table with only six points. Their squad, valued at just €20 million, is the least expensive in the division, and injuries and suspensions are piling up. The latest blow came in their 1:2 defeat to Charlton Athletic, where first-choice goalkeeper Ethan Horvath was sent off in stoppage time, leaving the team even more vulnerable defensively.
Middlesbrough
By contrast, Middlesbrough look composed and confident under Rob Edwards. Their 2:1 win over Ipswich Town in Round 10 showcased both the heroics of goalkeeper Sol Brynn — who saved a penalty — and a bit of good fortune, as an own goal sealed the result. Only four sides have managed to avoid defeat against Middlesbrough so far this season. While they’ve occasionally stumbled away from home, there’s little to suggest that struggling Sheffield Wednesday will be capable of halting their momentum.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Middlesbrough Prediction
Sheffield Wednesday’s crisis continues to deepen, compounded by suspensions, limited squad depth, and poor form. Middlesbrough, despite a few away setbacks, possess the quality, balance, and confidence to secure a routine win here.
