Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2027 European U21 qualifying match.
No side have managed to end Spain U21's winning run in Group A of the qualifying round for the European Under-21 Championship. It is unlikely that San Marino U21 will be the first.
Spain U21
Spain U21 not only regularly reach the final stages, but also made the quarter-finals at the last European Under-21 Championship, where they lost to England U21, the eventual champions (1:3). In the current qualifying campaign they are beating every opponent, though they tend to manage their effort. So far there has been only one heavy win — against Cyprus U21 (3:0). Finland U21, who also played on the Iberian Peninsula, proved more resilient and lost only 1:2.
San Marino U21
San Marino U21 achieve little at either senior or under-21 level. For them, a win over a comparable side is already an achievement. In the 2025 European Under-21 Championship qualification they failed to earn a single point and finished with a goal difference of -50 after 10 matches. At home, they can sometimes offer some resistance — as in the match against Romania U21 in September (0:2) — but away they are heavily beaten, even by Finland U21 and Kosovo U21 (7:0 in both cases).
Spain U21 vs San Marino U21 Prediction
Spain U21 are significantly stronger than all of their opponents, including San Marino U21, though they may ease off at times. In qualifying for the 2017 European Under-21 Championship, the Spanish side beat them 3:0 away and 6:0 at home. We will back the Spanish side on the handicap, guided by the average outcome.
