Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Prediction for the English EFL Championship match. Stoke City will host Coventry City. The sides are separated by just four points, and a win for the visitors could seriously intensify the battle for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Stoke City
Stoke City have hit excellent form: three wins in a row with an aggregate score of 9:1. In the last round, the Potters confidently beat Oxford United (3:0), with Lewis Baker (a brace) and Steven Nzonzi, who scored for the club for the first time since 2015, playing key roles. The hosts have lost only one of their last eight matches and are now second (27 points, 21:9 goal difference). At home, Stoke City are especially solid: four wins in six matches, average xG — 1.88, xGA — 0.92. Thanks to a powerful midfield and compact defence, they rarely allow opponents to create chances.
Coventry City
Coventry City lead the standings (9:4:1, 39:13) and are also the league’s best away side by points (14). But in their previous away match they suffered a painful defeat to Wrexham AFC (2:3), where they conceded 2.1 xGA — their worst figure of the season. After that, Coventry City barely restored balance by beating Sheffield United (3:1), but defensive issues remained. Brandon Thomas-Asante — a forward for Coventry City — is the EFL Championship’s top scorer (10 goals, 3.42 xG over the last five matches). However, they concede an average of 1.4 goals, and against Stoke City this could be decisive.
Stoke City vs Coventry City Prediction
The match should be even, but everything is working for Stoke City now — balance between the lines, conversion, and compact defending. The visitors are unstable away from home, especially after demanding midweek fixtures. The in-form hosts should exploit Coventry City’s fatigue and take revenge for last season’s defeat.
