Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Serie A match.
The final match of the round in Italy will take place at the Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore, where Sassuolo Calcio host bottom-placed Genoa. Ten points separate the sides, and against the backdrop of Genoa’s crisis the hosts have an excellent opportunity to consolidate a mid-table position.
US Sassuolo Calcio
The hosts are having a steady season and sit in the top ten after nine rounds. The win over Cagliari Calcio (2:1) signalled that the dip has been overcome. They play proactively in attack, creating an average of 1.6 xG per match, but often settle for narrow victories — at home they have scored only four and conceded four. On their own pitch Sassuolo Calcio look reliable: three wins in official competitions with two defeats to AS Roma and SSC Napoli. In head-to-head home meetings with Genoa the record is solid — five wins and only two defeats in ten matches.
Genoa CFC
After Patrick Vieira’s dismissal, Genoa were left without a coach and without victories. After nine rounds the team have not won once, scoring only four goals. They are bottom, having conceded 13 times, with more than half after the 60th minute. Their away statistics are dreadful: one win in 15 matches and a run of seven straight away defeats. The absence of Andrea Pinamonti up front has seriously reduced efficiency — average xG does not exceed 0.8.
US Sassuolo Calcio vs Genoa CFC Prediction
US Sassuolo Calcio look stronger across all metrics: possession, intensity and home consistency. Genoa are in crisis, lacking a head coach and a clear game plan. The hosts should win, but a rout is unlikely — they rarely win by big margins.
