Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Bundesliga match.
Werder have steadied themselves after two heavy defeats, collecting four points from their last two matches. Their next test comes against Union Berlin, a team that continue to alternate between promising displays and costly lapses.
Werder Bremen
Under new head coach Horst Steffen, Werder are clearly in transition. The manager has introduced a more possession-based, passing style, but the defensive fragility remains glaring. Three heavy losses in seven games — 0:4 against Bayern Munich, 1:4 versus Eintracht Frankfurt, and 0:3 against Freiburg — exposed their structural issues at the back. While Bremen average 1.57 goals per match, their defensive numbers are alarming: an xGA of 2.01 and 16 goals conceded, the second-worst record in the league. Even at home they have struggled for consistency, edging past St. Pauli but conceding three goals apiece to Freiburg (0:3) and Bayer Leverkusen (3:3).
Union Berlin
Union Berlin have shown signs of recovery after a poor start. They have picked up points in three of their last four matches, losing only to the high-flying Bayer Leverkusen (0:2). The team remain inconsistent defensively, conceding in six of their seven league fixtures, yet their attack has been productive with 11 goals scored. Most of the output has come from the duo of Ilyas Ansah (four goals) and Oliver Burke (three goals), who continue to provide energy and pace up front.
Werder Bremen vs Union Berlin Prediction
Werder Bremen are still searching for balance and look vulnerable defensively, whereas Union Berlin have been more resilient recently and rarely go down without a fight. Given the form of both teams, the visitors appear capable of taking at least a point from Bremen.
