After 10 league matches without a win, West Ham United finally got a victory, and did so away to the much better-resourced Tottenham Hotspur (2:1). It seems that now winning at home should also be easier.
West Ham United
However, at London Stadium West Ham United have only two wins and one draw in 11 matches. It is no surprise that the team are constantly in the relegation zone. Even if the hosts start collecting points regularly, that may still not save them from relegation – they are five points adrift of safety. Last time out the squad lost 1:2 to direct rivals Nottingham Forest. The problem is that they create few chances (14.38 xG) and convert even fewer of them (11 goals).
Sunderland
But Sunderland are also not strong away from home. On their travels the visitors are in the bottom five in the league for chances created (11.57 xG), and they convert less than half of them into goals (only five). Despite sitting ninth in the standings and having beaten Crystal Palace 2:1 at home last weekend, their last away match ended in a heavy 0:3 defeat against Brentford for Régis Le Bris’s side.
West Ham United vs Sunderland Prediction
For this reason, even taking into account only two home wins, we expect West Ham United to take points here. Sunderland are a completely different side away from home: only two wins from 11 possible. They are also unlikely to be given much space (the hosts average 43% possession), so opportunities for counter-attacks will be kept to a minimum.
