Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
Wycombe Wanderers
Wycombe haven’t really been tested yet. Their toughest opponent so far was Wigan Athletic, also from League One, whom they beat 2:0 away in the previous round. In the league, Wycombe are still fighting to stay up — sitting 17th, just three points above the relegation zone. Still, October has brought a brighter spell. Earlier, things were far worse. They drew and won two matches apiece in League One and also defeated Fulham U21 (3:1) in the EFL Trophy.
Fulham
After reaching the last 16 of the League Cup thanks to a 1:0 win over Cambridge United from League Two, the main Fulham side have hit a rough patch. They’ve suffered four straight Premier League defeats and dropped from eighth to 17th. Losing to Arsenal (0:1) was expected, but the others? Aston Villa (1:3) were in the relegation zone at the time, while Newcastle United (1:2) were right next to them in the table.
Wycombe Wanderers vs Fulham Prediction
Fulham do have some injuries, but none of their key players are affected. The bigger question is whether Marco Silva will risk fielding most of his best men given their precarious league position, where progress is far more important. It’s likely Fulham will sacrifice this third-tier competition ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
