Next James Bond Actor Odds

The global giant Amazon, which has already distorted the Lord of the Rings franchise with The Rings of Power, has now acquired the rights to James Bond. What changes await us, and most importantly—who will be the next Agent 007?

Who Will Be the Next James Bond?

Jeff Bezos teases subscribers, inviting them to guess who will replace Daniel Craig. The public votes for Tom Cruise and Eddie Redmayne, but bookmakers have their own inside information and preferences. Leading the odds are traditionally masculine, classic leading men. However, there are also joke candidates, such as Jeremy Clarkson at 1000/1 or David Beckham at 100/1

We'll break down the top contenders for the role of the British agent, the director of the next film, and the new main villain. And, of course, we’ll highlight the best betting options.

Next James Bond Odds List

The big question remains—will the franchise stay true to its conservative ideals, or are we in for a radical reimagining? Much of this will become clear with the choice of the next Bond.

When it comes to predicting leading roles in major franchises, bookmakers often miss the mark. Neither Pierce Brosnan nor Daniel Craig were even in the top five contenders before being cast as the fifth and sixth James Bond, respectively. This opens the door for value bets.

Conservative Choices

The Daily Mail uncovered an internal memo from Amazon Studios stating:

The spy will not change gender or nationality.

This explains a lot about current bookmaker predictions.

Henry Cavill: The Ultimate Classic Bond?

Age: 40

Country: Saint Helier, Jersey

Career timeline: 2001- active

Filmography/Notable works: Men of Steel, Batman vs Superman, Justice League, The Witcher

The former Man of Steel is the top favorite. Interestingly, he was in the final three contenders back in 2005, but was deemed too young for the role at the time.

Henry Cavill is the epitome of a cisgender male heartthrob, as if he walked straight out of Ian Fleming’s novels. He may not be the most inventive actor, but let’s be honest—Bond has always been about charm.

If Amazon wants to return the franchise to its roots, Cavill is the ideal choice. He even left The Witcher because he disagreed with Netflix’s disregard for canon, freeing up his schedule. And after his exit from DC, he certainly has the time. Now, he’s at the perfect age—just a couple of years older than the average Bond actor.

Theo James: A Rising Star?

Age: 39

Country: High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England

Career Timeline: 2010 - present

Filmography/Notable Works: Divergent series , Underworld: Awakening , The White Lotus , The Gentlemen

The Anglo-Greek actor gained fame in Divergent a decade ago, but it was his role in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen that catapulted him up the bookmakers’ odds.

His career has clearly taken off in recent years, moving from B-movie action films (Underworld: Blood Wars) to prestige TV (The White Lotus). Time Out suggests he could bring back Sean Connery’s vibe, though some question his charisma. Even Theo himself doesn’t seem convinced:

I love some of the Sean Connery movies, but I think they need to do something else. Do you know what I mean? They need to really go with a reinvention of it in a different way—and that wouldn’t be me.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson:The Secret Favorite?

Age: 33

Country: Buckinghamshire, England

Career timeline: 2002-active

Filmography/Notable works: Nowhere Boys, Nocturnal Animals, Bullet Train

Rumors suggest secret screen tests with Barbara Broccoli, the Bond franchise producer. Some even speculate that they shot a teaser together.

However, Taylor-Johnson has stayed silent for years about his potential involvement. His buzz faded after the failure of Kraven the Hunter, but his filmography still makes him a strong contender:

  • Played a military leader in Tenet

  • Starred as Tangerine in Bullet Train

  • Won a Golden Globe in 2017 for Nocturnal Animals

Other Classic Bond Candidates

A quartet of rising British and Irish actors could also be in the mix:

They all meet the age and nationality requirements (ranging from 29 to 39 years old) and have recently gained recognition. However, none are A-list stars, which might actually work in their favor.

Historically, the Bond producers have avoided casting ultra-famous actors. Clive Owen, Hugh Jackman, and Liam Neeson were passed over for Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. That’s why long-time fan favorites like: Tom Hardy – 33/1 , Cillian Murphy – 33/1 and Tom Hiddleston – 50/1 have such long odds.

Alternative James Bond Candidates

Despite the Daily Mail leak stating there won’t be a “Jane Bond”, some bookmakers still offer odds on female candidates—just in case Amazon pulls a Disney and reimagines the entire franchise.

Suranne Jones: First Woman as Bond

Age: 45

Country: Oldham, Greater Manchester, England

Career Timeline: 1997 - present

Filmography/Notable Works: Coronation Street,  Doctor Foster

The Doctor Foster and Gentleman Jack star first appeared in bookmakers’ lists in 2019 when a Change.org petition pushed for her as the next Bond. However, even she is skeptical about a female 007:

A lot of people say you should just create a new character instead of making James Bond a woman—and I agree. We should have our own characters.

Regé-Jean Page: First Black Bond

Age: 35

Country: British-Zimbabwean

Career timeline: 2005-active

Filmography/Notable works: Bridgerton, Survivor, The Gray Man

The Bridgerton star has been linked to the Bond role for years. The idea of a Black James Bond isn’t out of the question, though reactions to Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who suggest audiences might resist radical changes to iconic characters.

Even Idris Elba, who was a top contender three years ago, has seen his odds drop:

Next James Bond Villain

Even less is known about potential villains. The only solid source analysts refer to is Gambling.com, which doesn’t disclose its sources. The current frontrunner is Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage. However, there’s speculation that Rosamund Pike could overtake him.

After all, if a woman won’t be Bond, why not make her the villain? Some of the greatest supervillains have come from rejected heroes.

Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen, known for 12 Years a Slave and Blitz, has emerged as a frontrunner in discussions about the next Bond film. According to The Sun, an anonymous source revealed that Bond producers had approached McQueen and received an encouraging response. However, McQueen himself has yet to confirm these reports.
