It seems McLaren fans may have celebrated Lando Norris's theoretical ascent to the top of the standings too early. Max Verstappen hasn't allowed him to climb to third place, meaning the gap in the overall standings remains significant.
2024 Mexico City Grand Prix Winner Odds
The Red Bull team can finally focus on maximising downforce settings to extract the best from the track's slow corners. Although Max is significantly lacking in top speed and acceleration compared to the leaders, he is certainly capable of making up time through the tricky chicanes.

Formula 1 Drivers' Championship Title Betting Odds
With only five rounds left in the season, the situation is unfortunate for Lando Norris and the McLaren team. If Max Verstappen continues to finish in the top five, Lando may have to say goodbye to his final chances of winning the championship.
Moreover, Charles Leclerc's recent victory in Austin closed the gap between them to just 22 points, a threat that should not be underestimated. As for Leclerc, it remains stable—he leads Oscar Piastri by 28 points and is unlikely to allow him to catch up in the upcoming races.
Meanwhile, there might be a reshuffle within the Mercedes camp toward the end of the season. After Lewis Hamilton's retirement, George Russell closed the gap to just 10 points, meaning that a couple of good races could see him move up to sixth in the standings.

Max Verstappen | 354 | 2/9 |
Lando Norris | 297 | 15/4 |

Lando Needs to Act More Aggressively
If there's a driver who has faced the toughest challenges this season, it's undoubtedly Lando Norris. He's never felt pressure quite like this before.
On one hand, the team is reluctant to slow down his teammate for the championship's sake, while on the other hand, he's missing perfect opportunities to score points against Verstappen, losing out to a clearly underperforming Red Bull, and of course, Charles Leclerc never lets up in his efforts to displace Norris from second place.
Should qualifying be close, Norris may need to go all-in in his battles against Verstappen and Leclerc, instead of merely trailing laps behind hoping for an error. He needs to be consistently aggressive and secure top positions by any means necessary.
Max Verstappen showcased this by holding him back for so long despite the car's speed disadvantage. Does that mean Lando might need to play a bit dirtier? Perhaps so.

Mexico City Grand Prix History
The Mexico City Grand Prix first took place on November 4, 1962, and was not initially part of the official World Championship calendar. It gained official status a year later, with Jim Clark becoming its first winner on October 27, 1963, driving a Lotus.
Max Verstappen is the most successful driver in Mexico, with four wins. Alain Prost, Jim Clark, Lewis Hamilton, and Nigel Mansell each share two victories on this track.
This year, the FIA announced changes to the circuit and DRS zones.
The concrete walls have been rebuilt between Turns 9 and 10 on the left and between Turns 13 and 14. The wall between Turns 12 and 13 has been enlarged.
Additionally, the measurement point of the first DRS zone is now 70 metres after Turn 9, and the DRS activation point is 80 metres after Turn 11.
Mexico City Grand Prix Prediction
Given Verstappen's extensive experience on this track and the numerous tight and complex corners, it's possible the Red Bull will perform well alongside aggressive and fast competitors.
Lando is expected to have an excellent qualifying session, but the battle with his teammate and Leclerc makes betting on a first-place finish highly unpredictable. Nonetheless, it's safe to assume that the McLaren driver might at least make it into the top three this time around.
Charles Leclerc has also proved he can increase the pace in corners and won't give an inch on the straights, so his chances of success are also considerable.
Mexico City Grand Prix Schedule and Weather Forecast
