Next U.S. President after Trump and 2026 World Cup Champion: bets you'll have to wait for years to get paid for
The First Woman President and Football Finally Coming Home.
Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election is a true shock for many. Cruise companies are offering a four-year world tour as an escape — a getaway for Democrats so shaken that they want to wait it out far from America. Unfortunately for them, the top contender to succeed Trump is his main ally, future Vice President J.D. Vance.
Who Will Win US Presidential Elections in 2028
On one hand, long-term bets are risky—too much can happen in the future that could shift the odds. On the other, such tempting odds won’t be available closer to the event. In 2016, when Trump first ran (and won), the odds on him were around 100/1.
U.S. Presidential Election 2028
Bad news: in the past quarter-century, the early bookmaker favourite has never actually won. The closest was Hillary Clinton in 2016, who was called the frontrunner as early as in 2012. But her plans were thwarted by the same Democratic nemesis—Donald Trump. Still, there are trends and patterns that allow certain figures to stand out on the political stage.
Politicians
J.D. Vance
J.D. Vance’s candidacy isn’t plucked from thin air. Over the past half-century, U.S. vice presidents have risen to the highest office roughly every 17 years.

Ohio Senator J.D. Vance seemed to emerge out of nowhere. For the first time in 50 years, someone without prior government experience was elected to this position.
In just a few years, his career skyrocketed. He has a rare, invaluable skill for someone in power: the ability to come back from the most hopeless situations. Already a vice-presidential candidate, he called Kamala Harris an 'old, toothless cat lady.' Criticism rained down from both Democrats and his Republican allies, plunging his ratings to a 40-year low. Yet he didn’t despair. He delivered a stellar debate against his Democratic colleague, Tim Walz, and regained his lost standing.
Vance is the third youngest U.S. vice president on record. Politics in the U.S. isn’t exactly a young person’s game; since the 1990s, only two elected presidents—Bill Clinton and Barack Obama—were under 50. But after the harsh criticism faced by an ageing, often erratic Joe Biden, there’s a growing public call for a younger establishment.
Gavin Newsom
There’s also another trend. Over the past 30+ years, Americans have shown a preference for alternating presidents from different parties. While a two-term president from one party almost always serves out both terms, the successor is typically chosen from the opposing side.

It’s logical that after the Republican Trump, a Democrat might take office. Gavin Newsom is the opposite of Vance: he’s been in politics for years, serving as mayor of San Francisco and currently as governor of California. Leaders from southern and western states have had a slight edge in winning voter support over the past 50 years.
The Economist once predicted Newsom as Biden’s successor, but he ultimately lost out to Kamala Harris. However, several betting platforms, including Betting Dime, highlight Newsom as the second most popular choice among bettors.
Michelle Obama
The fact remains: there has never been a female president in the country. Although there was no shortage of candidates—only in the last 12 years five women have been nominated. Hillary Clinton was the one to win the primaries, only to lose in the general election.
To this day, Clinton is the only former first lady to have experienced such success. Meanwhile, Michelle Obama, according to the 2020 Gallup poll, is the most popular Democratic party figure among undecided voters. Moreover, in January 2024, her approval ratings were higher than those of Biden and Harris.

Of course, her campaign will leverage both gender and race—traditional strong suits for the Democrats. Young women are becoming increasingly involved in politics. According to recent data, about 25 percent of young women voted, compared to just 20 percent among men. And it’s among women where Obama enjoys her highest approval ratings.
Movies and TV Celebrities
The success of Ronald Reagan, who made the leap from Hollywood to the Oval Office, continues to intrigue bookmakers, who consistently offer media personalities as potential candidates for the presidency. Among the names on the list, for example, is podcast host and MMA commentator Joe Rogan.

Across the globe, there’s a rising wave of protest sentiment among the electorate. This is partly driven by the success of figures like Trump and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky, a former actor. Voters are increasingly willing to cast their ballots for a charismatic figure who is not tied to the established, often wearying political elite.
Media and bookmakers, meanwhile, are quick to latch onto any provocative statement, considering public figures as potential presidential candidates. One can’t help but remember Kanye West from three years ago. Although, these days, it seems his focus has shifted more toward the porn industry.
George Clooney has slightly higher chances. He caught the attention of bookmakers after calling on Biden to step down from the 2024 election race.
Movie stars, singers, and TV hosts almost always support the Democratic Party. And based on bookmaker odds, the party doesn't seem to have the best prospects. So, regardless of which celebrity catches the public’s eye, betting on them is doubly risky.

Another event that will take several years to get a payout for your bet is football World Cup 2026. Let’s see what odds bookmakers are offering for this event today.
Football World Cup 2026
The issue with early bets on sports events is that the odds aren’t as high as they could be.
Top 5 Favourites to Win World Cup 2026
It’s rare when the two largest bookmakers, Bluefox and Unibet, disagree on the main favourite. However, the odds are so close that they reflect the uncertainty surrounding the tournament more than a year in advance.
England
Nevertheless, there are high hopes for England, especially after the appointment of Thomas Tuchel. After all, German coaches are second in terms of championship titles, right after Brazilians.
England has reached the semifinals in three of the past four major tournaments. The squad is bursting with stars, and for the first time in over 20 years, an English player could win PFA Player of the Year in consecutive seasons. Following Phil Foden, this year’s main contender is Cole Palmer.
Yes, football still hasn't come home in over 60 years. But it seems England has never had a golden generation like this before. Here's a list of individual awards from last season:
-
Harry Kane – Top scorer in both the UEFA Champions League and the Bundesliga.
-
Ollie Watkins – Premier League's Best Assistant.
-
Phil Foden – PFA Player of the Year in the Premier League.
-
Cole Palmer – Young Player of the Season in the Premier League.
Yes, the English are the only ones to have lost two consecutive Euro finals. But when it comes to the World Cup, they are one of just three teams with a perfect record. One Final - One Cup.
Brazil
Brazil is always among the leaders, though the five-time champions have gone without a victory since 2002. This marks a repeat of the team's longest winless streak in history.

It has never happened that Brazil has gone without gold for six consecutive World Cups. Additionally, in the only World Cup held in the USA, in 1994, they were the champions. In fact, Brazil has won three of the eight tournaments held in the New World, accounting for 37.5%. No other team has a better record.
In terms of overall squad value, Brazil may not be in the top spot, trailing behind England and France. However, in any position you look at, they have a representative from the top three leading European leagues.
Argentina
Another Latin American team in the top 5 is Argentina. But seriously considering them as favourites can only be done by the most devoted fan. Only twice in history has the reigning champion successfully defended its title, and the last time this happened was over 60 years ago.
Ángel Di María is retiring from international play, and defender Nicolás Otamendi will be 38 in two years. Messi is no longer able to carry the team on his own, as evidenced by Inter Miami's recent failure in the first round of the playoffs.
However, the team proved its depth beyond Messi when they won the Copa América, with standout performances from Golden Boot winner Lautaro Martínez, who didn’t even need to start most of the games.
France
France, based on Euro 2024, seems to have squandered their previous potential. Les Bleus were one of the youngest teams at the 2022 tournament. However, by the upcoming World Cup, many of the long-time team leaders will either retire or be preparing to end their careers. Among the semifinalists from the recent Euro, the French are the second oldest team, after Spain.

However, the overall trend of European teams strengthening their positions at the World Cups is clear. Of the last five tournaments, only one was won by a non-European team, and only twice has a non-European team made it to the final.
Spain
Spain, despite their success at Euro 2024, remains a bit of a dark horse. The new leaders of the team, such as Yamal and Cubarsi, won’t even be 20 by the time the World Cup rolls around. On the other hand, Carvajal and possibly Rodri may miss the tournament.
Spain became the first team in history to win all of their group-stage and knockout matches twice in the history of the Euros. But they crumbled at the 2022 World Cup, producing one of the worst penalty-shootout performances of all time, with Morocco eliminating them.
Series of consecutive victories at major international tournaments are extremely rare. But the biggest streak— from 2008 to 2012 — belongs to Spain, who won 2 Euros and 1 World Cup during that time. Who knows, maybe the young team of 2024 has started a new streak?
