Oasis Reunion Odds: Future of the Music Band
Wonderwall is built again.
Since Oasis broke up in 2009, fans have been demanding a reunion, and Liam and Noel Gallagher have been leading the charge on this front. August 2024 will always be remembered as the historic month when the brothers announced not only an Oasis reunion but also a massive 2025 tour.
It's safe to say that the Gallagher brothers have continued to delight, amuse, and entertain long after Oasis went away, even though the jabs exchanged between them over the years have occasionally been quite nasty in addition to being side-splittingly funny. So let's discuss the future of the band as well as all the hints that pointed to the official Oasis reunion.
The Split up
After years of internal strife, Oasis broke up in 2009. Noel Gallagher formally left the band shortly before they played at a festival close to Paris. The brothers had an antagonistic relationship for a long time before their breakup, and it is said that they stopped speaking to each other for years after it ended. The band's guitarist and songwriter, Noel Gallagher, said in a statement at the time, "People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer." The Gallagher brothers haven't performed together since, but they still frequently play Oasis songs when they go solo. Additionally, they have both publicly criticized each other in the press.
Noel Gallagher claimed that his younger brother's hangover was the reason they had to postpone their 2009 concert. The frontman filed a lawsuit in response to the allegation, which he eventually dropped.
In 2016 Noel was quoted in the Daily Star as saying that if the money is right, he would consider a reunion. What would the amount of that be? "One gig for twenty million pounds is a good wage, isn't it?" Then Noel added, "But I have never had that offer from anyone yet".
Naturally, enthusiasts have long conjectured that a reunion may be imminent: Liam Gallagher played at a benefit concert that sparked rumors of a reunion following the bombing in 2017 that killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, the hometown of Oasis.
He bemoaned his brother's absence, but a representative clarified that Noel Gallagher was unable to attend due to an enduring family vacation. Noel Gallagher gave permission for Oasis' music to be used and gave royalties from "Don't Look Back In Anger" to the British Red Cross' One Love Manchester fund, according to the benefit's organizers. Prior to the announcement, Oasis was already teed up to release a new collection, “Definitely Maybe - Deluxe 30th Anniversary Editions,” celebrating the anniversary of their debut album.
The Reunion
And so the greatest will-they-won't-they debate in rock history has finally been resolved: Oasis has revealed that they will reunite for a 14-date UK and Ireland tour in 2025. Some rumors suggest that they are planning to perform as the headliners of the Glastonbury festival.
Stadiums in Cardiff, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Dublin will host the concerts in July and August. The dates were referred to in a press release as the "domestic leg" of the tour, and it was stated that "plans are underway" for it to extend outside of Europe in 2025.
"There hasn't been any great revelatory moment that has ignited the reunion - just the gradual realization that the time is right," the press release said in reference to the well-known brothers' decision to get back together. The band released a statement saying, "The guns have fallen silent. The universe is in harmony. The long wait is now over. Come observe. It won't be shown on television.”
Oasis's official tour announcement stated that they would be performing in "other continents outside of Europe later next year."
Oasis to perform at a non-European location during 2025
The confirmed line-up for Oasis is unknown, and the band has no intention of going back into the studio to record new songs. In recent days, the Gallagher brothers had been teasing the news on social media by posting a clip of the date "27.08.24" in the same font as the Oasis logo on both their personal and official accounts.
Oasis to release a new single in 2025
Recently, Noel complimented Liam's singing skills in a video to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Definitely Maybe. "My singing would sound good when I sang a song. The song sounded amazing when he sang it. I can't sing Rock 'n' Roll Star, Cigarettes & Alcohol, and other such songs. His attitude is not the same as mine. It's okay, my voice sounds like half a Guinness on a Tuesday. On Fridays, Liam's has ten tequila shots.”
Even with their inactivity, Oasis continues to command a sizable gen Z audience and have 21.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The band's instantly recognizable font was used by Dua Lipa in the promotional materials for her purportedly Britpop-inspired album Radical Optimism earlier this year. Some have conjectured that Noel's recent divorce from his second wife, Sara MacDonald, in a settlement reportedly worth around £20 million, may be one reason for a lucrative reunion.
To perform at least one of the concerts in the advertised tour
Given everything stated above and the fact that it’s a show business, all that the fans can do is wait and see what happens. Let’s hope that Oasis brings us many exciting shows in the near future.
