PDC World Championship Odds & Betting Guide
The upcoming three weeks are set to be a treat for all darts enthusiasts. On 15 December, the World Darts Championship, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation, kicks off at London's Alexandra Palace. This tournament consistently draws a huge crowd of fans from around the globe, featuring the best players of our time. But among them, who stands the best chance of claiming the title? Let's take a look at the favourites and PDC World Championship betting odds.
Who will win the PDC World Championship 2023?
Darts World Championship odds
The reigning champion is Luke Humphries. The tournament also includes the young prodigy Luke Littler and legendary figures like Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, Raymond van Barneveld, among others. They will commence their journey from the Last 64 stage.
PDC Winner Odds
PDC World Championship Favourites
The main favourite is Luke Littler, although he currently holds the 4th position in the world rankings. However, the current champion, Luke Humphries, follows just behind him based on the betting odds.
Luke Littler
Current World Ranking: 4
Luke Littler is considered the frontrunner for the World Championship title. And it's well-deserved. The 17-year-old wunderkind has had an extraordinary season, clinching numerous tournaments throughout the year. His commanding victory at November's Grand Slam of Darts caused a sensation in the darts world. Little wonder Littler will attract heightened attention. He is in the form that could see him triumph at the World Championship – a feat that would cement his status as a legendary figure for all time.
Luke Humphries
Current World Ranking: 1
Despite holding the top spot in the PDC rankings, Luke Humphries is the bookmakers’ second favourite, largely due to Luke Littler's massive popularity. However, it would be unwise to underestimate the reigning world champion. Humphries maintains an exceptional standard, making it incredibly challenging for any player in the world to restrain him. A potential semi-final clash between Littler and Humphries is already being hailed as what could be the greatest match in darts history, and it will determine who is more deserving of legendary status.
Gary Anderson
Current World Ranking: 14
Gary Anderson ranks third on the bookmakers' list, which might initially seem surprising – but only at first glance. The Scottish veteran has recently been displaying an extraordinary level of play. Though he hasn't secured victory in TV tournaments, his current form is impressive. At 53, Anderson is experiencing a renaissance and is clearly determined to clinch the world championship for a third time. If he maintains his momentum, he could very well achieve his goal.
Michael van Gerwen
Current World Ranking: 3
Michael van Gerwen stands in fourth place, which, unfortunately, comes as no surprise. The great Dutch darts player has not been performing at the level long expected of him. Statistics, too, don't favour him — his last World Championship triumph was in 2019, after which he has only managed to reach the final. Last year, he was sensationally defeated by the relatively unknown Scott Williams. This time, it's hard to believe Michael will become champion. However, his high ranking and past victories leave bookmakers with little choice.
Michael Smith, Mike De Decker, Wessel Nijman
Current World Ranking: 2, 24 and 58 respectively
Three darts players are tied for fifth place — Mike De Decker, Wessel Nijman, and Michael Smith. Smith, currently holding the second spot in the PDC rankings, is the least surprising on the list. The inclusion of De Decker and Nijman is more striking. Both have made a significant impact this season — Wessel clinched seven youth development tour stages and one Players Championship tournament, while Mike emerged as the Grand Prix champion. Yet, even with these credentials, it's irrational to regard them as prime favourites. It’s unlikely they'll reach the title, or even the final. Mike and Wessel are the tournament's dark horses, but that’s exactly what makes them intriguing.
Who will reach the final?
World Darts Championship 2025 Schedule
As we mentioned above, top players will start the tournament from the Last 64 stage.
Another 32 players have earned their spots in the World Championship through impressive performances on the PDC Pro Tour. Among these skilled players are Cameron Menzies, Alan Soutar, Florian Hempel, Jermaine Wattimena, and many more. Their odyssey to Alexandra Palace begins at the Last 96 stage.
The third group of players made their way to the World Championship by claiming victories in regional and additional tournaments. This includes India's top darts player Nitin Kumar, the formidable Chinese darter Zong Xiao Chen and the phenomenal Fallon Sherrock, who is recognised worldwide. There are many debutants in this list, including representatives from new countries. For the first time in history, the Bahamas and Switzerland will be represented at the PDC World Championship by Rashad Sweeting and Stefan Bellmont, respectively. Each one of them will be playing their initial matches against players from the PDC Pro Tour rankings at the Last 96 stage.
The World Championship follows a set system — a distinguishing feature from many other tournaments. In the Last 96 and Last 64 stages, a player needs to win three sets. In the Last 32 and Last 16 stages, four sets are required. The quarter-finals demand five sets, the semi-finals six, and to achieve victory in the final, seven sets are needed. In each set, the darts player must win three legs.
