Singapore Grand Prix 2024: Predictions and Betting Tips for the Formula 1 Race
The Singapore Grand Prix will take place from September 20 to 22 on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. This will be the 18th race of the current Formula 1 season.
What betting options have the bookmakers prepared for the Singapore race? The best odds for the race weekend are in our review.
It seems that Max is unlikely to grab more than a couple of podiums by the end of the season. The much-struggling Red Bull team is hoping to finish the season quickly, aiming to stay at least in the middle of the top ten by the end of the races.
Who will win the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix
At the same time, Ferrari and McLaren have entered a new phase of rivalry. It seems that their desire to outdo each other is far more important to them than the elusive 2024 season title.
2024 Singapore Grand Prix Winner Odds
Piastri's second victory has significantly boosted his chances of success in Singapore, according to bookmakers. He has already caught up with Leclerc in the odds, and riding the wave of his recent success, he could very well contend for a podium finish—especially since his car clearly has the potential to make that happen.
At the same time, the championship leader's chances of winning even a single race are steadily decreasing. Similarly, Lewis Hamilton's odds have dropped, as he only managed to fight for a podium in the middle of the season, before sliding back to 6th–9th place finishes.
At the recent Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri took first place, Charles Leclerc finished second, and George Russell rounded out the podium in third.
Formula 1 Drivers' Championship Title Betting Odds
Die-hard McLaren fans have already crunched the numbers, determining that for Lando Norris to have a realistic shot at the title, he would need to outscore Max Verstappen by 8-10 points in each race from Baku until the end of the season. Considering that this didn’t happen in Azerbaijan, the chances of such an outcome are becoming increasingly slim.
It seems Lando should be more concerned about Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri, who are now even closer after the recent race and could very well snatch the second position from him by the end of the championship.
Meanwhile, at Red Bull, the season's results are hardly a topic of discussion anymore. The bosses are well aware that the car is not just falling behind competitors in certain stretches but is outright weaker than the top teams in every race. Moreover, it seems Max is being given clear instructions to "not overwork" the car and aim for 5th-6th place without taking unnecessary risks.
Of course, it’s not the most thrilling championship strategy, but it’s the only way the team can help Verstappen hold onto first place.
Personal standings for the 2024 season and odds to win
History of the Singapore Grand Prix
The Singapore Grand Prix was first held in 2008, with Fernando Alonso taking the victory behind the wheel of a Renault. Of course, races were held on this track earlier, from 1961 to 1973, but they were not part of the Formula 1 calendar at the time.
The race is traditionally held on the Marina Bay Street Circuit under artificial lighting.
Sebastian Vettel holds the record for the most wins on this track, with victories in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019. Lewis Hamilton follows with four wins in 2009, 2014, 2017, and 2018. Fernando Alonso rounds out the top three, having won twice, in 2008 and 2010.
This year, sections of the track were resurfaced, including:
– From the entry to Turn 3 to the exit of Turn 8;
– From the exit of Turn 10 to the exit of Turn 12;
– From the exit of Turn 14 to the entry of Turn 16;
– From the exit of Turn 16 to the exit of Turn 17.
Additionally, a fourth DRS zone has been added. The detection point is 105 meters after the apex of Turn 17, with the activation point located at the exit of Turn 19.
Is Piastri the Future Star of Formula 1?
Since last year’s struggles of McLaren to secure points, it was clear that Oscar Piastri is not just a typical junior test driver but an extraordinary talent ready to deliver impressive results in a competitive car.
His victory in Baku serves as strong evidence that in 2025, Piastri could emerge not just as a “second driver” but as a genuine title contender.
Former Formula 1 Driver Jolyon Palmer noted that in Azerbaijan, Piastri underwent a final "test of strength." There’s truth in that.
In Monza, Oscar aggressively demonstrated that he wouldn’t be sitting back for Lando’s sake and was determined to fight for trophies. McLaren even had to hold a meeting with the drivers to discuss future strategy and risk minimization.
What’s important is that despite being a "second driver," Lando supported Oscar in Baku by deliberately slowing down Perez, allowing his teammate to exit the pits ahead of the Red Bull driver.
Combined with the impressive engine performance and new wings, this suggests McLaren is poised to maximize their potential by the end of the season and could emerge as leaders at the start of 2025. Of course, Oscar still needs to prove to the team that he can win consistently. However, given his driving skill, minimal mistakes, and cool calculation, there’s no doubt we’re witnessing the rise of a new star in modern Formula 1.
2024 F1 Constructors’ Championship odds to win
Singapore Grand Prix Prediction
First and foremost, it’s likely time to forget any theoretical hopes of Lewis or George making it onto the podium. Russell’s recent bronze was merely a fortunate outcome due to the accidents of Checo and Sainz. Even Toto admits that the fight for podiums this season is over. He believes there are hardly any races left on the calendar that suit their car (one might wonder which ones ever did).
Meanwhile, Lando remains the logical favorite among bookmakers. Despite some struggles in qualifying, he has shown slightly more consistency than Leclerc and stands a good chance of conquering the challenging Singapore circuit.
Charles, on the other hand, excels in qualifying but may lose too much speed on the straights. His main opportunity for victory lies in securing pole position or making an overtaking move on the first lap. Otherwise, keeping up with the maximum speed of the McLaren will be extremely challenging.
Schedule and Weather Forecast for the Singapore Grand Prix
Throughout the weekend, hot weather is expected at the track, with daytime temperatures reaching 31-32 degrees Celsius, partly cloudy skies, 80% humidity, and a moderate eastern breeze. Morning hours are likely to see rain and thunderstorms.
