Who will win 2024/25 League 2 — odds on promotion, favourites and predictions
EFL League Two is entering the home stretch. But it’s too early to hand out the prizes. Just one point separates first and second place, while only two points divide the teams from third to sixth.
Who Will Win EFL League Two?
Which three teams will secure automatic promotion? Who has the best chance of making it to the playoffs? And who will win the Golden Boot? We’ll answer these questions and, of course, highlight the most exciting betting opportunities.
EFL League Two Betting Odds
Bookmakers find it difficult to predict winners in this unpredictable league. In the past 10 years, only once has the preseason favourite gone on to finish first. This time, just two of the five top contenders at the start of the season are still in the top ten.
Top Contenders for Win and Promotion
It’s amusing that over the past nine seasons, the last team to make the playoffs has actually been the most successful in securing that coveted fourth promotion spot to League One. Here’s how the playoff winners break down:
-
7th place – 4 victories, including last year’s triumph by Crawley
-
5th place – 3 victories
-
6th place – 2 victories
-
4th place – just 1 victory
League Two is not about consistency. Teams that narrowly miss out on automatic promotion often struggle to recover in the playoffs.
EFL League Two Favourites
Right now, we’re seeing exactly that kind of slump from the current leader.
Walsall
Matthew Sadler’s side has hit a dreadful run of form at the worst possible time. They are the only team in the league without a win in their last seven matches.

However, The Saddlers remain the league’s top-scoring team (67 goals). Jamille Matt is the sixth-favourite for the Golden Boot at 40/1
Statistically, Walsall’s final eight fixtures are slightly easier than those of their main rivals Bradford City, based on their opponents' average points per game. This likely plays a role in their odds
4/5
to win League Two.
That said, Walsall’s next two matches are crucial:
-
Away at 5th-placed Doncaster
-
Away at 4th-placed Port Vale
Bradford City
The second of the two serious title contenders. Bradford have been in solid form, winning three of their last five matches. Even in their recent 0:1 defeats, they statistically outperformed both Gillingham and Tranmere in xG.
One of Bradford’s biggest positives was their incredible home support on Saturday. A special £5 ticket offer attracted over 23,000 fans to Valley Parade, creating a fierce atmosphere that helped them dominate in a 4:1 win over in-form Colchester United (21 shots, 3.18 xG). That energy is likely still driving the squad forward.
Only one top-five opponent (Doncaster Rovers) remains on their schedule, making Bradford at
5/2
an appealing option—especially with Walsall facing a tougher run-in. This also leaves room to adjust bets as the standings shift next week.
One key factor: Bradford only have three home games left, whereas Walsall have an even split (four home, four away). Given how much stronger League Two teams have become at home, this could work against Bradford.

Main Play-Off Contenders
A five-point gap and a clear priority on securing promotion over chasing the title make it unlikely that Wimbledon, Port Vale, or Doncaster can put together the kind of winning streak needed to reach the top. So far this season, none of them have shown the consistency required to pull it off.
However, these three teams are the clear favourites to finish in the top seven—if we exclude Walsall and Bradford, who are considered such strong bets that bookmakers aren’t even offering odds on them for a top-seven finish.
Top 7 Finish
Given the uninspiring odds for the top four favourites, Grimsby Town naturally draws attention. They have suffered just two defeats in their last 12 matches, and their squad boasts the league’s top assist provider, Denver Hume (10 assists).
A tight battle seems likely between Grimsby Town, Colchester United, and Notts County for a playoff spot, with Notts County holding a clear advantage.

They rank third in goals scored (56)
-
Third in assists (39)
-
Only five teams have conceded fewer goals (39)
-
They also have the Golden Boot frontrunner, Alassana Jatta in their ranks.
