Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Ascot 1965 Chase (Grade 2, 2m5f, 4yo+) horse racing event.
Last year’s winner, Pic D'Orhy, is once again a strong contender for the trophy. Following his victory here last season, he went on to claim the Ascot Chase, though he didn't manage to finish the Melling Chase at Aintree. Nevertheless, the competition seems within his grasp this time. We’re betting on him to win with odds of 4/5 at bet365.
Djelo poses the main challenge to Pic D'Orhy. He was the beaten favourite on 8 November in the Haldon Gold Cup, losing by less than a length to JPR One. The first half of last season was spectacular for him, clinching three consecutive wins. However, post-New Year, his form dipped, although a third-place finish in the Turners Novices' Chase at 25/1 can be seen as a minor triumph.
Dashel Drasher is making a return to fences after two seasons competing in hurdle races. He finished third in this race back in 2021. Last season, he competed over three-mile distances and claimed victory in the Long Distance Hurdle, so the shorter distance could smooth his transition back to chasing.
Le Patron shone brightly in the first half of last season, winning three consecutive starts, including the Henry VIII Novices' Chase. However, his form declined subsequently, culminating in a non-finish in the Turners Novices' Chase where he started at 100/1.
Corrigeen Rock raced four times last season, performing admirably, although all appearances were in non-graded races. He concluded the season with a victory in the Scottish Champion Chase at Musselburgh. At 7 years old, there's room for improvement.
