Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Serie A match.
Despite Milan’s sluggish start to the new season under their new coach, their matches have been entertaining. Paulo Fonseca will be looking to secure his first win with Milan at San Siro against a rather fitting opponent, Venezia.
AC Milan
Milan’s attacking form is unquestionable: with 5 goals in 270 minutes, they have created 5.54 xG, which is the 5th highest in the league. On the other hand, their defence has been highly unstable, having conceded six goals (the worst record along with Atalanta). Against Lazio (2:2), Paulo Fonseca managed to snatch a draw thanks to substitutions, but the media has once again started discussing a potential conflict between the team’s leaders (Rafael Leão, Theo Hernández) and the coaching staff, a situation that needs immediate resolution.
Venezia
Venezia, newly promoted to Serie A, have yet to win this season and even suffered a defeat in the Coppa Italia to Serie B side Brescia Calcio (1:3). At home against Torino (0:1), they showed promise in creation, generating 0.94 xG, with the shot count 13-12. The team likes to shoot and attack, allowing the opponents to play, but they are currently lacking in finishing.
AC Milan vs Venezia Prediction
In the championship season of 2021/22, Milan defeated Venezia twice (2:0 and 3:0), and now both teams have a similar style with an emphasis on attack. Defensive problems persist even for the favourites, so the visitors might score through the weak right flank of Milan’s defence. However, Milan have such a strong attacking lineup that they themselves can surpass this total.
