Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.
Al Ahly Cairo
Al Ahly are the most successful club in Africa. However, it’s not that obvious beyond the continent. For example, they have only managed to become third at the FIFA Club World Cup on three occasions: in 2006, 2020 and 2021. The side finished fourth in the last two editions of the tournament. Al Ahly have had problems taking points even in the domestic league. They last two games ended in a draw: against El Gouna (1:1) and Smouha (0:0).
Al-Ittihad
Al-Ittihad have almost lost all chances to defend their champions title in Saudi Arabia. This is why they prefer to focus on the FIFA Club World Cup. They have already played one game in this tournament, beating Auckland City from New Zealand without any problems (3:0). Al-Ittihad were fully controlling the game. They could have scored even more, as they had a 3-0 lead after half-time.
Al Ahly Cairo – Al-Ittihad prediction
This is actually a home game for Al-Ittihad as the tournament is held in Saudi Arabia and this game will kick off in Jeddah. The level of the teams is way too different. Home field of Jeddah will affect this match too. I guess it’s clear who’s the favourite. Besides, Al Ahly has been performing poorly recently. They have won only 1 out of the last 5 games, scoring just twice. Tough schedule that Al-Ittihad have had is the only problem.
I believe that there will be no surprise in this game.
