Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Saudi Pro League match.
This fixture holds no bearing on the final standings: Al-Riyadh are set for a mid-table finish and are not in contention for higher places, while Al-Ahli have already secured fifth place. That said, Al-Ahli remain motivated, eager to wrap up a strong season in which they were in the hunt for a top-three spot until the closing stages, and they will aim to finish on a positive note.
Al-Riyadh
Al-Riyadh have progressed compared to last season, moving up from 14th to a mid-table position. However, their form towards the end of the campaign has been disappointing, with three defeats in their last four matches, two of which came by a two-goal margin. Al-Riyadh continue to struggle defensively, having conceded 51 goals this season—the worst defensive record among the top nine teams. Veteran Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan has made notable efforts, but has managed just eight clean sheets in 33 appearances.
Al-Ahli
Al-Ahli have had a consistent campaign: 20 wins, 64 points, and a healthy goal difference of 68:36. They have been particularly effective on the road, winning six of their last eight away matches, averaging two goals per game. The reverse fixture in January ended in a dominant 5:0 victory for Al-Ahli, with three more goals ruled out. Ivan Toney, who netted twice in that match, remains in excellent form and currently ranks second in the league’s goalscoring charts with 22 goals.
Al-Riyadh vs Al-Ahli Prediction
Al-Ahli are clearly the stronger side, having defeated Al-Riyadh in four of their last six meetings. Despite the match carrying no competitive weight, Al-Ahli are expected to close out the season with a convincing performance, scoring at least twice against a defensively vulnerable opponent.
