Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Washington match.
The ATP Washington tournament has been going exceptionally well for Learner Tien. The 19-year-old American has already eliminated Andrey Rublev (ATP No. 10) and now has a genuine chance to reach the quarter-finals.
Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina
Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina began his Washington campaign with a straight-sets win over fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar (6:4, 6:2), but his first serve left much to be desired. He landed just 61% of his first serves and managed to win only 66% of those points. Since March, only one of his matches on hard courts has gone to a deciding set — in the others, he has either won comfortably or lost without offering much resistance.
Learner Tien
Learner Tien continues to make solid progress in his development, and the victory over Andrey Rublev was no accident: this season, he has won four of his five matches against top-10 opponents. While his game still includes occasional unforced errors, he plays with high intensity, displays confidence from the baseline, and shows strong resilience in pivotal moments. Learner is particularly effective on hard courts, where his career win rate stands at an impressive 77% (97–29).
Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina vs Learner Tien Prediction
Learner Tien is expected to put his opponent under pressure with his speed and aggressive play, especially with the support of the home crowd. His strength on hard surfaces should allow him to capitalise on Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina’s inconsistency in fast-paced rallies.
