Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Miami Masters match.
A thrilling late-night clash awaits in Miami as Alex de Minaur, one of the most consistent performers of 2025, takes on João Fonseca, Brazil’s teenage sensation rapidly rising through the ATP ranks.
Alex de Minaur
The 10th seed has already posted 16 wins in 21 matches this season, including a final run in Rotterdam and a quarter-final showing at the Australian Open. His opening-round win over Bu Yunchaokete (6:4, 6:4) was another routine display of his tireless movement, deep returning, and mental consistency. Impressively, de Minaur has only failed to reach the last 16 once this year, back in Dubai, and looks physically sharp and tactically sound.
João Fonseca
The 18-year-old Brazilian is enjoying a breakout March. After lifting a Challenger title in Phoenix, he’s now making serious noise at tour level, having already knocked out No. 19 seed Ugo Humbert (6:4, 6:3). Fonseca also beat Andrey Rublev (7:6, 3:6, 7:6) in a thriller earlier this month in Rio, showing he can handle the heat against top-10 opposition. He’s now up to No. 60 in the world and looks poised for a rapid climb — but matches against consistent top-tier grinders like de Minaur are still relatively new territory.
Alex de Minaur vs João Fonseca Prediction
Although the young Brazilian might pose a challenge to Alex de Minaur, the Australian’s current form suggests he will emerge victorious.
