Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Miami Masters match.
Alex de Minaur has hit a major milestone in his career, breaking into the ATP top 10 for the first time after a hard-fought win over Joao Fonseca. The Aussie is thriving on his favourite surface and looks poised to make another deep run in Miami. Matteo Berrettini, meanwhile, continues to battle for form – despite a winning record this year, matches against top-tier opponents remain a challenge.
Alex de Minaur
De Minaur has been one of the form players of 2025, winning 16 of his 21 matches so far. Against Joao Fonseca (5:7, 7:5, 6:3), he showed resilience and composure, overturning a set deficit and capitalising on his opponent’s inexperience and 43 unforced errors. On hard courts, the Aussie is confident, quick, and difficult to break down.
Matteo Berrettini
The Italian got past Zizou Bergs in straight sets (6:4, 6:4), but doubts remain over his consistency. Berrettini has lost five of 13 matches this season and continues to struggle against the ATP elite – losing 8 of his last 12 clashes against top-20 players. Miami has never been kind to him either, with this year marking the first time he’s gone beyond the opening round at the Masters 1000 event.
Alex de Minaur vs Matteo Berrettini Prediction
The head-to-head is even at 2-2, but De Minaur has the edge on hard courts, having won both their previous encounters on the surface. With his current momentum and superior movement, he enters as a deserved favourite. That said, Berrettini is capable of snatching a set with his serve and forehand combo, especially if De Minaur starts slowly as he did against Fonseca.
