Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Wimbledon match.
30th seed Alex Michelsen will battle to extend his Wimbledon campaign against the more experienced Miomir Kecmanovic. The question is: will raw talent or seasoned nous prevail?
Miomir Kecmanovic
Miomir Kecmanovic has never been at ease on grass—only one of his last five seasons ended with a positive win-loss record on the surface, while last year’s was perfectly even. That said, he did reach the third round at Wimbledon, falling only to Jannik Sinner in straight sets (1:6, 4:6, 2:6). This year, he put up a fight at both Halle and Eastbourne but was ultimately unlucky, losing in three sets each time while forcing his opponents to grind through at least 29 games.
Alex Michelsen
As for Michelsen, despite being seeded at Wimbledon, the 20-year-old American has yet to win a match on these hallowed lawns. In 2023, ranked outside the top 250, he didn’t even attempt qualifying. The following year, he suffered a heartbreaking five-set defeat to world No. 118 Lloyd Harris (6:3, 6:4, 6:7, 2:6, 6:7) despite being ranked 55th himself—a missed opportunity that should have hardened him with bitter experience.
Alex Michelsen vs Miomir Kecmanovic Prediction
This time, even as the nominal favourite, Michelsen won’t have it easy. We expect a gruelling battle lasting at least three hours, with the total games comfortably exceeding 40.
