Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Rio de Janeiro match.
World No.2 Alexander Zverev begins his ATP 500 Rio de Janeiro campaign against China’s Bu Yunchaokete, a player still adapting to the main tour level. The German is the top seed and the clear favourite to progress comfortably.
Alexander Zverev
Zverev has had a strong start to 2025, reaching at least the quarter-finals in all tournaments he has played. In Buenos Aires, he was stopped in the last eight by Francisco Cerúndolo (28), while his only other defeat this season came against World No.1 Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final. With his dominant serve and experience on clay, the German is expected to go deep in Rio.
Bu Yunchaokete
Bu is currently China’s No.3 and recently moved up three ranking places to No.66 after reaching the second round in Delray Beach. Despite a decent showing against Taylor Fritz (6:7, 2:6), his 3-6 record in 2025 highlights his struggles on the main ATP circuit. The 23-year-old is still gaining experience at this level, and facing Zverev on clay is a massive challenge.
Alexander Zverev vs Bu Yunchaokete Prediction
There is a huge gap in experience and quality between these two players. Zverev should dominate, winning in straight sets with at least one comfortable set. Expect the German to cover the game handicap with ease.
