Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Roland Garros match.
One year on from their five-set epic at the same stage of Roland Garros, Alexander Zverev and Tallon Griekspoor are set to clash once again in the fourth round. Back then, Zverev edged a thrilling contest in a deciding-set tiebreak. Now, the German returns in even better form, while Griekspoor still struggles for consistency, often dropping sets to lower-ranked opponents.
Alexander Zverev
Zverev has been rock solid through the first three rounds in Paris, dropping just one set and producing excellent numbers behind his serve — averaging six aces per match and 75% first-serve success. The German thrives at this stage of Grand Slams, having won seven of his last eight fourth-round appearances. On clay this year, Zverev already has a title under his belt from Munich — where, notably, he defeated Griekspoor in a tough three-setter (6:7, 7:6, 6:4).
Tallon Griekspoor
The Dutchman arrives with far less momentum. While he’s battled his way through the draw, he’s already dropped four sets — and none of his opponents were inside the top 40. Griekspoor struggles against taller, power-serving players, losing nine of his last 14 matches against players 6'4" (193 cm) or taller. His first-serve percentage has hovered around 66%, which won’t cut it against Zverev’s elite returning. In head-to-heads, he’s lost seven of nine meetings with the German — dropping at least one set in every single encounter.
Alexander Zverev vs Tallon Griekspoor Prediction
Zverev has the edge in their head-to-head and excellent clay-court statistics, while Griekspoor has only a 67% (12 wins in 18 matches) win rate on clay this season—he is unlikely to have much chance of success in the upcoming match against the German.
