Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Wimbledon match.
Alexandre Muller has been handed perhaps the toughest possible draw for the opening round — Wimbledon legend and tournament favourite Novak Djokovic. The Frenchman is enjoying a respectable season overall, but his results on grass remain limited and largely underwhelming. Djokovic, as in previous years, arrives at Wimbledon without playing any warm-up events on grass, but his experience and level allow him to hit the ground running from the very first match.
Alexandre Muller
Muller has won just 3 of his 10 career matches on grass. His game is far better suited to clay, and that lack of exposure on this surface is likely to prove costly. Their only previous meeting came at the 2023 US Open, where Djokovic dispatched Muller in straight sets without much resistance.
Novak Djokovic
Djokovic, meanwhile, has won 12 of his last 14 matches on grass. Over the past few seasons, only Carlos Alcaraz has managed to beat him on this surface. The Serbian great is a master at playing his way into form during Grand Slams, but he rarely struggles in the early rounds. Wimbledon is one of his favourite tournaments — he’s reached the final here every year since 2018.
Alexandre Muller vs Novak Djokovic Prediction
The gulf in class and Muller’s poor grass-court record leave the Frenchman with no realistic chance. Djokovic will advance comfortably and is expected to win by at least eight games.
