Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Doha match.
Jack Draper is considered the favourite. At first glance, this makes sense, as the Brit is ranked 11 places higher. However, a deeper look suggests the match might not be so one-sided.
Alexei Popyrin
Popyrin has yet to win a match in 2025, losing in the first round of all three tournaments he has entered. His defeats came against: Matteo Arnaldi (37th) in Brisbane, Corentin Moutet (69th) at the Australian Open (6:4, 3:6, 4:6, 4:6), Jiří Lehečka (24th) in Rotterdam (5:7, 2:6) His first serve has completely deserted him – in his last two matches, he hit only four aces but made nine double faults.
Jack Draper
Draper has had a positive start to the season, winning three of four matches at the Australian Open before retiring in the fourth round against Carlos Alcaraz due to a hip tendon inflammation (5:7, 1:6). However, he hasn’t played since then, making his fitness level uncertain.
Alexei Popyrin vs Jack Draper Prediction
While Draper’s physical condition is a concern, Popyrin’s form is simply too poor to capitalise on any potential rustiness from the Brit. With Popyrin’s first serve failing and Draper’s superior consistency from the baseline, the Brit should take this one comfortably.
