Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2024 World Snooker Championship match.
Allister Carter
Carter is back to the top 16. This fact speaks for itself. The key point is that the player is back to the game after a long sickness. He plays equally against the top world players. However, at the end of the season Carter didn’t performed in the way he had before. He hasn’t been stable recently. The last game Carter played was against Ronnie O’Sullivan and Ali was beaten 2:10.
Stephen Maguire
Maguire was stubborn to reach this tournament. The qualifying stages weren’t simple for him as it might seem. Ashley Hugill was a tough nut to crack, but Maguire managed to do it eventually (10:7). The game versus Yuan Sijun started badly for Stephen but the Scottish player managed to fix this in the second half of the match. It was obvious that Stephen is well-prepared for the tournament as he performed good series.
Allister Carter – Stephen Maguire prediction
Allister Carter has had twice more games compared to Stephen Maguire. However, the latter has won more matches (in percentage). These players have had many head-to-head games, with the latest ones won by Maguire. Carter only managed to win with a huge lead once, 7 years ago. I don’t think that Maguire is an absolute outsider. Carter was lucky to have such an opponent at this stage, though. I don’t think this is going to be an easy walk for neither of the players.
