Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA US Open match.
Anisimova and Świątek meet just a month and a half after the Wimbledon final, where the Pole beat the American (6:0, 6:0). Amanda will take to the court with revenge on her mind, while Iga will aim for a second straight Grand Slam title this season.
Amanda Anisimova
Anisimova is having a strong season: she has climbed to world No. 9, won the WTA 1000 Doha and reached her first Grand Slam final. In New York, she defeated four opponents ranked outside the top 20, entering those matches as a clear favourite. However, her record against elite opposition is modest: in her last six hard-court matches against top-10 players, Amanda has lost four times.
Iga Świątek
Świątek has won 10 matches in a row on hard courts, dropping only one set in that span. She arrived at the US Open as the reigning Wimbledon champion and has beaten four players ranked inside the top 100. In her most recent match, Iga was dominant against the world No. 12, Ekaterina Alexandrova, winning (6:3, 6:1) and allowing only four games. In New York, the Pole has a 59% first-serve percentage but has won 72% of points behind her first serve. That has not prevented her from winning three of four matches by at least five games.
Amanda Anisimova vs Iga Świątek Prediction
The recent Wimbledon scoreline weighs against Amanda Anisimova psychologically, and sustaining attacking intent against Iga Świątek’s defensive solidity will be extremely difficult. The Pole is favoured to cover the -3.5 games handicap.
