Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Wimbledon match.
A clash between two players level in both ranking and recent form: neither has shown consistency, neither is among the favourites, and a run to the second or third round would be a decent achievement. The question is who handles the nerves and adapts better to the surface.
Anastasia Potapova
Anastasia Potapova played just two events during the grass swing: she lost her opening match in 's-Hertogenbosch and withdrew in Berlin after one qualifying win. But if the Russian is fully recovered in time for Wimbledon, she has the quality to perform close to her best. She’s known for drawn-out matches — eight of her last 14 contests have gone to a deciding set.
Magdalena Fręch
Despite a win over Andreeva, Fręch has looked underwhelming on grass overall. The Pole has lost three of her four recent matches and has a poor record against top-50 players — just 10 wins in 29 attempts. Her only previous meeting with Potapova came in Toronto in 2024 and also went the distance, with Fręch taking the third set to love. Interestingly, four of her last five matches this season have also gone to three sets.
Anastasia Potapova vs Magdalena Fręch Prediction
Both players come into Wimbledon short of their best. Potapova's fitness remains a question mark, while Fręch has failed to impress of late. Expect a drawn-out battle that goes to a decider.
