Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP tennis match
Andrey Rublev
Andrey Rublev’s success in Montreal looks impressive compared to his disappointing matches in the last months. His way to the final wasn’t easy at all, Rublev even won in a match against world number one Jannik Sinner (6:3, 1:6, 6:2). The Russian tennis player stays high in the rankings because he knows how to win titles and gets the most points. If Andrey wins, he will be the first tennis player this year to get more than one Masters championship. He was the strongest in Madrid in May.
Alexei Popyrin
Aleksei Popyrin’s success didn’t come out of nowhere. This season he’s performing great on open hard courts. The Australian beat Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open and reached the semi-finals at a big tournament in Doha. Moreover, Popyrin has a perfect record in title matches, two wins in two finals. Alexei made a comeback in a meeting with Alexander Bublik in Singapore-2021 (4:6, 6:0, 6:2) and did it again against Stan Wawrinka in Umag-2023 (6:7, 6:3, 6:4). The final match should be exciting.
Andrey Rublev - Alexei Popyrin Prediction
Usually, Rublev takes advantage of lucky draws and turns finals against players outside the top ten into titles, But this time he’s facing a tough opponent who’s serving well in this tournament. Popyrin won four tiebreaks on his way to the final and isn’t planning to stop. It will be very hard to break his serve.
